  • Child Soldiers - You're In The Army Now

CHILD SOLDIERS – You’re In The Army Now

    Airdate: 09/21/19

Around the globe children are on the front Line.

Child soldiers, as young as five to eighteen years old with machetes, AK 47s, and even more vicious ways of killing have been coerced and placed in wars across the globe in at least 18 armed conflicts.  Whole groups of students and children are kidnapped, drugged and addicted to fight in these wars.  These are the most vulnerable of all, seeking a “family” to escape poverty and child abuse.  Child soldiers are found in state governments and non-state militias, including most recently in Syria. They are taught this is the way the “family” and the world into which they were born survives, gets protection.  This and the drugs to which they are addicted is all they have ever known. When asked what they had done one child, responded, “We did what we should do. We buried them alive.”

In 2017 Child Soldiers International estimated that several tens of thousands of children, possibly more than 100,000, were in state- and non-state military organizations around the world. Join Tom Osborne and his US World Report news team for this shocking radio revelation!

  • An Age For Justice

Elder abuse includes physical, emotional, or sexual harm inflicted upon an older adult, their financial exploitation, or neglect of their welfare by people who are directly responsible for their care. In the U.S. alone, more than half a million reports of elder abuse reach authorities every year, and millions more cases go unreported.

As older adults become more physically frail, they’re less able to take care of themselves, stand up to bullying, or fight back if attacked. Mental or physical ailments can make them more trying companions for those who live with them. And they may not see or hear as well or think as clearly as they used to, leaving openings for unscrupulous people to take advantage of them.

Elder abuse tends to take place where the senior lives: where their abusers are often adult children, other family members such as grandchildren, or a spouse or partner. Elder abuse can also occur in institutional settings, especially long-term care facilities.

  • Will The Auto Industry Save AM & FM Radio?

‘Will The Auto Industry Save AM & FM Radio?’

Radio is competing with everything and everybody. Content reigns supreme in this very competitive arena and it’s quickly expanding. The auto industry has been busy behind the scenes deciding on a dynamic change. They want to break the monopoly that radio broadcasters have enjoyed since 1929. By making streaming, the web and downloads available in cars offered today, radio may be forced to get into the back seat.  The Tesla Model 3 doesn’t even offer AM and FM as a basic option in their electric vehicles. But all is not lost and the  US World Report radio team uncovers new territory for what some have said is an outdated delivery system. Don’t believe it! Radio is alive and well and continues to grow worldwide. Join Tom Osborne,  Dr. David Kanervo, Mary Saliba and Ken McCaleb on a journey into the future by saying goodbye to the past. The mantra heard over the airwaves from terrestrial antennas everywhere is adapt… and that is exactly what’s happening. NPR seems to be leading the way.

  • The Tiny House Revolution

The Tiny House Revolution – Is It A Fad?

Admit it… you’ve often dreamed of escaping the 9-to-5 world and moving to a cabin in the mountains or pictured yourself living in a tiny house next to the ocean. It’s an escapist fantasy. Sure, you might be able to scale down and live in a quiet and peaceful place when you retire, but right now you need to work and take care of Susie, Bobby, Megan, and numerous other inhabitants of your 2000 square foot home. Let’s be realistic. US World Report Radio wonders how many people who build tiny houses actually live in them long term? We’ve all known several people who have moved out to the country, only to abandon the lifestyle after a few years due to the constraints and limitations. The tiny house revolution is catching on worldwide and we see it as an alternative for many people who otherwise might find themselves homeless. This radio program takes a serious look at some of the challenges.
