On July 26th our family will celebrate Kelley's birthday. She would have been 58 years old, it really could have been said that she was 58 years young because she never seemed her age. She was always full of energy... enough to do any task that was needed for our family.
Kelley participated in 4 or 5 marathons in her lifetime.
I always told her that one day I would do a marathon with/for her. Well the time has come for me to make good on my promise to her,
so on Sunday July 24th starting at 6:00 AM, I will begin to walk/run my marathon for Kelley, and it will take place at the Dunniway middle school track where I will walk 105 times around the track.
There are a couple of twists to this Kelley marathon.....
1. Anyone who would like to walk with me is more than welcome, but it will cost you $1 per lap that will go to the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation who will be there in a booth with information and tax receipts. They were such a help to our family during Kelley's journey.
2. Yesterday, I was feeling my oats and decided to have a 2 on 2 basketball game where I was facing an 18 year old opponent. I made an impressive drive (at least in my own mind) that ended with my Achilles tendon not wanting to cooperate. It was badly damaged.
The motto in our family is that the show must gone on. So whether it be by crutch, or by wheel chair, I will be doing that marathon for Kelley.
Put it it on your calendar and plan to walk a few laps with me in honor of that special lady that we all loved, as we support the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation.
