OHSU Hospital is proud to welcome the metro area's first baby of the new year! Lucy Hibbs-Satterfield was born January 1, 2015, at 12:09 a.m. She is the daughter of Olivia Hibbs-Satterfield and Brian Satterfield of Dallas, Ore. Lucy weighs 7 lbs. 1 oz. and is 20 1/4" in length. We are still waiting for a New Year's baby from the McMinnville hospital, Willamette Valley medical Center.  No one is in labor yet.

Highway 18 B (the business loop between Sheridan and Willamina) remains closed. The main highway is open.Oregon State Police (OSP) with the assistance of the Yamhill County Sheriff's Department have located the vehicle and driver involved in this mornings fatal vehicle/pedestrian crash in Sheridan. The incident occured just before 7 this (thursday) morning. At 6:51am, dispatch received a call reporting a person in the roadway at the west end of Sheridan on highway 18. Rescue personnel responded, but the victim died around 7am. Witnesses say a vehicle hit the woman, stopped briefly and then left the scene. Authorities were looking for a newer model, dark grey, Toyota - either a mini-van, SUV or crossover, that has sustained heavy front end damage. They have since found both the vehicle and driver

More than twice the number of people showed up today for the regular Tuesday Hope on the Hill food distribution effort in McMinnville.  The food pantry is located near the Church on the Hill, but is a separate organization.  Executive Director Heidi Lindell was ecstatic, and thanked the Food for All food drive for a much larger than usual donation of produce.  More than two thousand pounds of fresh produce was available for the hungry in Yamhill County.   Food that was not given out can be refrigerated and saved for another day, or given to another food bank.      The Food on the Hill food pantry is closed on Christmas and New Years day, but will be open this coming Tuesday from 11 to 1.   Food donations continue to be and are always welcome.    She stresses that the food will not go to waste.

Food on the Hill food pantry has a ton of produce to give away TOMORROW 12/23.   The Food for All food collection effort has given the Church on the Hill Food pantry a TON of fresh produce.   The food pantry will open tomorrow (tuesday, December 23rd at 11am, 500 NW Hill Road.  The Church on the Hill food pantry is in the old Chemeketa Building next to the church on the hill in McMinnville.  No cost for the food, just come and get it.   Volunteers are more concerned about it going to waste than wether it goes to people who can afford to pay.  Come and get it.

McMinnville High School dance team selling cheeses, beef sausage and holiday gift packs as a fundraiser for the McMinnville Kiwanis club.   Also singing Christmas carols at Third and Davis at the US Bank plaza in downtown Mac.

An updated release will be issued when the decision is made. Travelers will have to choose an alternate route to the Central Coast, as there is no detour available.Northbound traffic is being turned around at Sea Lion Caves (MP 179.1). Southbound traffic is being turned around at the Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park (MP 176.3).
