APOLOGIES: sometimes i mention 'highpass' when i actually mean 'lowpass' 😃
The obvious usage for lowpassfilters is to reduce high frequencies. However, with a resonant filter can do the opposite as wel. Get creative with a lowpassfilter, use it as an exciter.
