USP13 - The Hidden Stories That Connect Us with Jason Hollander

Listen Later

Every university campus around the world is full of interesting, passionate people who can too easily become invisible in the fabric of a university - the landscapers, the security guards, the electricians, the people who clean and maintain our campus flags, the bus drivers, the tour guides, the collectors of weird objects, the … there are stories hidden in plain sight, waiting to be given voice.

In this session I had the pleasure of speaking with Jason Hollander, the Senior Director of Communications at New York University’s Office of Public Affairs. We talked about one of my favorite subjects, and that is really exploring video as one of the richest, deepest most engaging platforms to tell a story. But of course behind the shiny end product, there are lot of operational questions that come up, like how much does this cost? Do we have the resources to do it right? And, most importantly, is video the right medium to the story? These are important conversations that will happen, and need to happen in order for you to put your best work out into the world.

Jason has a master's degree in philosophy and screenwriting from NYU Gallatin, and in his spare time, he is an adjunct professor in NYU's Steinhardt School and co-hosts a mindfulness podcast on iTunes called Meditate This. Please enjoy my conversation with Jason Hollander.

This podcast is brought to you by RateFrame, a new online platform that lets you highlight, playback and share your favorite moments of online videos. Just like you'd highlight an important sentence in a book, now you can highlight the best parts of an online video. Faculty use RateFrame to curate the most important moments from youtube videos, save them in a personal library, and cue them up as needed to present in class, saving valuable in-class teaching time that can be used for much more important activities. Students use the RateFrame platform to build “cliff notes” of the most useful parts of tutorial videos help them study for a test.

RateFrame brings the best moments of online educational videos into the classroom. You can sign up for free at www.rateframe.com/usp and get started highlighting your favorite parts of videos today.
