On April 30, 2017, John Bormann became the first player from UTSA to appear in a Major League Baseball game, as the Seguin, Texas, native had an at-bat for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the ninth inning of a game against the Miami Marlins. Bormann's story of his MLB debut is amazing. He learned about the call-up at 11:30 a.m. and had to drive three hours to Miami but didn't make it there until the third inning. When he made it to Marlins Park he almost wasn't allowed in.
