What tools can we use together to be part of bending the arc of the universe towards justice? In worship this month, we’ll explore the theme of “Transformation.” Change can be incremental until it reaches a tipping point and becomes an order of magnitude larger: transformation. Like a hungry caterpillar, we gather the resources we need, make a cocoon, become a mess, and then transform into a butterfly. Join us for this worship service where we explore the conditions that allow small changes to become transformation.

This Sunday is our annual youth service, a time for our young people to create a service reflecting their hearts and minds. This year our youth are curious about exploring the BIG questions in life. What do we believe about the nature of the universe? What is good and evil? Why are we here and how should we live? Is there hope for our future and life after death? Liberating love can free us from demands that we be anything other than we are. Liberation for everyone means the opportunity to live in a society that includes everyone’s unique gifts and shares labor fairly. We would be able to co-create a world of mutual thriving. How can we make small moves, together, towards that world? Join us for this service where we explore how liberating love and deep trust in the community can release us to flourish together.

Society offers many ideas about love and liberation. To find an earnest way forward one must carefully navigate these internalized messages. The path to liberating love is winding and wild, requiring wisdom and patience to free us from oppression. What decisions can we make each day that center love while offering liberation for ourselves and others? What are the known and unknown barriers before us?

What would the world look like if we truly knew that all children are our children? If love were the primary force at work in our institutions, from our classrooms to our courtrooms, from our hospital rooms to our board rooms, what would life be like? Cornel West famously said, “Justice is what love looks like in public.” Join us for this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day service where we explore how a liberating love could change the world.

Seeing people as human beings separate from their governments is a humanitarian practice many find challenging in times of war. Releasing stereotypes and searching for the humanity in the other side is hard work. Our faith calls us to practice it in our families, friendships, neighborhoods, communities, and even politics. We might not solve world peace, but we can love the person in front of us.
