January 09, 2018Memorial Service for Former Dean Richard MerrillFamily, friends and the UVA Law community memorialize Richard Austin Merrill, seventh dean of the Law School, who died Oct. 26, 2017. A mentor to generations of students and professors and an innovator in legal education, Merrill served as dean from 1980 to 1988 and was a member of the faculty for 38 years until his retirement in 2007.
