August 12, 2019Uzazi #14 Teaching your children about moneyAs early as age 3, children can start learning financial management. Prepare a shopping list, take them to the market with you to demonstrate planning. By age 6, they can learn how to save, and begin to practice delayed gratification as they wait to build up enough funds to pay for something they want. What financial habits and values are you teaching your child?Jaki is an ICF credentialed Life Coach who uses the Goal Achievement approach. August 05, 2019Uzazi #2 Dont let fear get in the way I think most people know at some level or other that setting goals can help them achieve success. Knowing how doesn’t translate to doing though. Mostly, though, setting and achieving goals is fearsome because it implies accountability. Once you set a goal you are saying to yourself that its up to you to achieve that goal, and that can be frightening. If today you tell yourself that your vison for your child is bigger than your fear of failure you have already made a big stride in the right direction.Jaki Wasike-Sihanya is a Goal Achievement Coach. July 29, 2019Uzazi #13 Rules about rules for your children part 2Rules should be necessary, fair, clear and enforceable. If it meets the first three but is not enforceable, think about having a guideline instead. Also consider the frequency and intensity or impact of the problem behaviour you are trying to address. Don't create rules for everything. Jaki is an ICF credentialed Associate Certified Coach who uses the Goal Achievement approach. July 15, 2019Uzazi #11 Heal the Wound or you will bleed on your ChildFor you to bleed on someone they must be close. Who gets closer to you than your children? Wounds can be physical, external and visible, or physical, internal and invisible. They could also be emotional, and more difficult to put a finger on.Many wounds need a helping hand to clean and close. And if you have been carrying one around for many years, it probably needs more help to clean and close. So why not reach out, and get that bleeding to stop? It will help your child, but the greatest beneficiary is you. Jaki is a Goal Achievement Coach with an Associate Certified Credential (ACC) from the International Coach Federation. July 08, 2019Uzazi #10 QuestionsQuestions are children’s way of understanding the world around them. The questions your children ask can give you insight into their fears, challenges, and developmental understanding. They can also spark great conversations that build trust. If you are struggling with answering your children’s questions reflect on what the root cause is. Children’s questions can trigger feelings of helplessness or low self esteem if that was your experience growing up. July 01, 2019uzazi #9 Twos and TeensThe distancing that is necessary for independence and autonomy to develop for Twos and Teens can be painful. Just when your kids are pushing you away the hardest is when it is most important for you to reassure them that you aren’t going anywhere. It isn’t easy, and, often, you’re feeling hurt, scared and helpless too. And sometimes, the behaviour of your twos and teens sets off triggers that result in your own ‘bad behaviour’. June 24, 2019Uzazi #8 FailureThere are many stories of people who tried and failed many times before they succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. Such stories are powerful for encouraging your child. June 17, 2019Uzazi #7 TriggerOur triggers are usually rooted in experiences we had as children, and which experiences we could not deal with sufficiently at that time. Many things that parents do, and which can lead to undesirable consequences for their children, are reactions to triggers. Identify those triggers and you could stop certain unintended behaviours.Jaki is a Goal Achievement Coach with an Associate Certified Credential (ACC) from the International Coach Federation.
