Many doctors will agree that mental health is super important yet it is still very much overlooked. Women, in particular, are often "under-diagnosed" because we do an incredible job of "masking" the issue and also because of the stigma associated with a psychiatric diagnosis.

Pelvic organ prolapse can be very debilitating for many patients causing leakage of urine, frequent bladder infections, embarrassing accidents and distortion or complete extrusion of the pelvic organs outside of the vaginal wall. This condition can lead to interference with daily activities like sex and exercise. Many caregivers find it hard to take care of their loved ones when incontinence is a problem. Pelvic organ prolapse can affect all ages but is typically seen in older, obese and in patient's wife had big babies. 75% of pelvic organ prolapse is attributable to childbirth. 31% of young women report issues with prolapse and Latino/Caucasian females are 4-5 times more likely to suffer from this condition. Pelvic floor exercises can help but only if a patient is compliant with her program. Surgical intervention is widely successful but it does not come without risk. I hope you enjoy this episode. Ovarian cancer is a scary diagnosis and thank goodness it is not that common. It is scary because usually by the time we make the diagnosis, the disease is already advanced. It is the second most common gynecologic malignancy in the United States and it is the most common cause of gynecologic death in the US. Ovarian cancer can sneak up on you. Symptoms are non-specific but they can include: abdominal pain or distention, nausea, early satiety, shortness of breath or dysfunctional bleeding.
I have the honor of introducing our guest, Dr. Ramin Mirhashemi, a gynecology oncologist practicing in Torrance, California.
