Beloveds! We are joined this week again by the incredible Brittany Policastro. Brittany calls in the beauty and potent healing that can be found in ordinary moments. She and Sophia can often be found performing elaborate rituals and those will always have their vital role in healing this world, but there is just as much rich energy in washing dishes when that is the aligned move. These two talk about polyamory and the freedoms it provides as well as the mental reframing that many of us need to do when entering into such spacious agreements. This episode has the ease of two old friends catching up, because that's what it is. But when those two old friends are such incredible healing powerhouses, we all benefit from listening in.
This conversation is raw and ripe with personal sharing. Do you know that "breakup" "heartache" Sophia keeps making reference to without talking about? She finds space and support to share the dish on it in this episode.
Get cozy, or pumped, or anything in between, maybe you'll find the exquisite ordinary in your own life as you listen to this sweet episode!
We explore the various definitions of pleasure and how it can help people to release themselves from the conditioning, discomfort, and trauma holding them trapped in ineffective habits that are negatively affecting their relationships, orgasms, pleasure experience, and ability to succeed. We review various ways to heal and learn more about their body and their orgasmic ability.

Samantha Rise 00:01
I'm Samantha Rise, and welcome to Vagina Talks. Where we speak about to from Vaginas. This is a show of alchemy, where we turn poison into medicine, disconnection into wisdom and isolated wounds into communal peacemaking. Here's your host, Sophia Wise One.
Vagina Talks Theme Song by Sophia Wise oe 00:20
You already know everything I could teach you. You already know everything I could say. We are here to remind you what you already, already, already know.
Sophia Wise One 00:34
I just want to take a minute to acknowledge that Vagina Talks understands that gender is fluid and dynamic and goes way beyond the binary of either woman or man, she or him. And that, in fact, it's a living and evolving thing that's actually personal, person to person. And that our bodies, even our understanding, or the ways that we experience them can vary. It's important for me that that's something that has space here on Vagina Talks. And at the same time, I also am carrying this understanding that woman hood and the experience of the feminine and all of the female, in the splitting of that binary, has been injured has been hurt, has been dismantled. And so I'm looking to have a space where the feminine and the female and the female body is reclaimed and respected and lifted and inspected and known, as well as a space that goes beyond the binary. And that acknowledges that these are limited constructs, mostly put upon us, and that we're in the process of evolving into something more whole and more true. Just wanted to say that some of my guests will use incredibly binary language for whatever reason from the places that they come from. And I just wanted to let you know that Vagina Talks has a much wider understanding, and it's a living one. So feel free to chime in as we go along. Without further ado, today's episode. Oh, sweet loves, welcome to Vagina Talks. I'm your host in this moment, they call me Sophia Wise One and I am privileged and honored to join you wherever you may be today. If you're outside doing yard work if you are curled up in your bed, if you're driving in a car, wherever you may be. Thank you for having me as company. Glad to be here with you. I am recording this episode again from the lands of a baby world. I talked about in my last episode that both of my sisters had babies, one of them had twins, three weeks apart. So we are newborn, we we get together twice a week currently has been the rhythm so far, we get all the babies and the parents all together twice a week. And we call it baby fast. And it's baby camp. And it's the aunt and uncle mom, dad, nibbling jam band. It's what we've been doing. And it has been an incredibly transformative time. For me, the soul medicine of infants of newborns is profound. And I am changing rapidly. And I am in a deep place of curiosity. And I think, I think that shows where I am. And so I just want to kind of we have a guest with us today that I'm just like, so mushy about having on today. So I want to bring her in, we're just going to kind of stay in this real, real space together, I am going to give her a little bit of a touting introduction. give some credit where credit's due. Before I give you some of the official breakdown, Brittany and I met over well over 10 years ago now at Studio 34 an incredible community yoga arts healing space in West Philadelphia and we have watched each other grow and transform. We met as powerful teachers, powerful practitioners over a decade ago. I'm like, it's almost 15 years I think, and and we've watched each other really transform and Brittany has just confronted conditioning after conditioning to expand into just a vibrant, powerful leader in what it is to claim your life as a sovereign being. And so I am always inspired and delighted the love runs deep. I'm excited to bring her on today and share her. She's been on this show before you can go back and it was a great show to go check it out that way. We'll throw the link out in the show notes. You can see some of the journeys that we've taken. But her, her most recent recent revelation present being state is here with us today. So a little bit about her work. Brittany has been facilitating transformation for the past 17 years, while showing others that living your life authentically can often look way different than society expects of us. In addition to being polyamorous, kink positive, bisexual and child free by choice, she is a sexual liberation and relationship coach, a sexologist, a practitioner of authentic Tantra, a writer and a yoga teacher. Over the past 16 years, Brittany has guided thousands of people into relating differently, releasing the stories that stifle them, heal the wounds and stigmas that define them, so that they can live in orgasmic authentic life in every possible way. She does that first and foremost with herself and with her chosen life partner and everyone else she walks with, and she leads people courageously, confidently and kindly in their transformation. Brittany, I love you. Welcome to the show.
Brittany Policastro 05:56
I love you, too. Hello, I'm so happy to be here. That was as I close my eyes and just received that, that was really beautiful. Love you what you shared about our own friendship evolution.
Sophia Wise One 06:09
Yeah, it's beautiful. It's so beautiful, too, because I have friends who you have been their yoga teacher. And so there's, these ways it's like so sweet. You know, like I have these memories of sitting with some of my friends. And, and they're talking in their processing. And they're like, you know, and Brittany says, and Brittany says, you know, like, I'm sitting there. And I'm like, yeah, yeah, you know, there's like, you know, like, "She's my teacher." And I'm like, yeah, I know, you know, she's a great teacher.
Brittany Policastro 06:37
There's so many people that are like, "I have you in my head, like I hear your voice in my head and you say this." like, "Wow! Cool!"
Sophia Wise One 06:44
Powerful, right?
Brittany Policastro 06:45
Also, listen for your voice, too. Please.
Sophia Wise One 06:49
Always. That's literally what your voice is. Literally, what you're saying in their head is like, "I'm here to remind you to listen over here."
Brittany Policastro 06:56
But this is you're voice.
Sophia Wise One 06:57
It's busy, busy in there. It's busy in there. I'll say a little bit about that. That's kind of what I'll talk about right now for me in this moment. I am. So I'm in this baby land. And one of the things that so like real, like real, real, real quick and dirty. Because I haven't talked about it a lot on the show. We'll see how much we get into it today. But it's like that stuff has been touching me just looking at the subject of just like I was so profoundly transformative, really, in love for a year. And then I was just so demolished for a year in our, in our space and distancing. And our renegotiation and our healing and, and so I'm just kind of coming out of that year and coming into this new, new understanding. And so I had a little bit of that moment of just like, I mean, one of those tender places, you know, when people are talking about like, ecstatic life and satisfying relating, and I'm like, "Oh, it's tender. It's tender. It's tender. Like.
Brittany Policastro 07:55
Sure.
Sophia Wise One 07:56
I know it's real. I know it's real and like I don't want to talk about it. That's something else. Don't tell me your happy stories. And I don't, I, that comes and goes and I'm feeling way kind of softer about it. But it's been so interesting, because in this time preparing to come for the babies, I was really meditating on, like, what do I focus on like, because I offered my both families like four to six weeks, like basically like a month or two months, and I will be it, will be close to two months for both of them that I lived in their houses, gave them hands on help with pregnancy and children. And so I was meditating and saying what, like, "What is, what do I, how do i tend my heart, my healing, my womb, my vulva, my vagina, my, my sexuality, my heart, my heart?" I mean, my heart just got, I just rocked bottomed like hard last year. And it was incredibly important. It was so important. But it's hard. And, and what do I focus on, and the message that I got over and over again, was like focus on the babes. Like, just focus, be present with the babies. And, and so I have, and I've really taken that as my medicine, my ceremony has been to be in deep presence. And so I have not talking about the voices in our heads. I have very intentionally not been engaging in long exploration of those voices. It's been a lot of like acknowledging and then refocusing, and having moments like washing bottles, five in the morning at the sink, and just being like and just having a wave of grief come over, you know, and just being like, okay, and taking three minutes to just like let the tears pour down my face and then take a deep breath and then turn around and like pick up this baby and give it my full focus and just be like, this is it, you know, and just this morning, I was holding one of my niblings, and I was looking at them. And I was like, "Oh my gosh." I just had this moment of just being like bless you, anyone who listens to the show this love that I have an episode with them, Aaron of Many Names Episode 49 and a half of Vagina Talks. And I said, you know, I'm just so grateful for you. And like the journey, the way that Aaron and I listened to the guidance and the, you know, we basically triggered each other to all get out and then looked at each other and said, I need space. And we got those messages in different ways. But that was kind of in short, what happened. And so I was looking at her and I was like, "Oh, my God, thank God, we listened, like, thank God, we listened." Because if we hadn't listened, there would have been all the same lessons, but it would have been so much more difficult to do it, with both of us watching the year that both of us went through the soul medicine. That, that we've walked through just being like, "Oh, my God, thank God, I had so much space because I was prepared to be with you." And I don't know if I would be with you now, if I hadn't listened to myself in the past, like, these deep, grateful moments to my past self. So that's kind of like a little all over the place. But just like just thinking about the voices in our heads and acknowledging and making space, but also choosing the refocus and the trusting and, and it's been powerful, it's been really powerful. The babies are five weeks and eight weeks currently. So it's been two months of newborn heart healing magic, and they just destroy me and all that, all that heart guarding has just been like being pulled off, you know, I just can't, I, you know, and it's not like I was trying to keep it in the first place diligently, you know, you know, but just power of powerfully pulling off those shields and just meeting myself. So it's a little bit where I'm at.
Brittany Policastro 12:00
Yeah, and so there's a couple of things that stuck out for me with that. One is just this idea of the exquisiteness of ordinary moments, like washing bottles, or, you know, just being present with a child. You know, I had a therapy session a couple weeks ago, where I had done a two, like an hour and a half time masturbation session, which is, you know, very deep medicine and, and then I go to therapy afterwards, virtually right now, because it's like I'm super tapped in, and it can be, it's just great. And so, there I may have, it was probably about 20 minutes, where I just sat with my therapist, I like didn't say anything, and it was amazing. And I've never been able to do that. Like I'm always like, "Okay. What am I gonna get out of this? I need to get my money's worth. What am I going to talk about? When I'm in the process, what am I going to heal, like let's get this stuff going." And there was this really powerful moment of me, not needing to do any of that, and not needing to be with all those voices and just sitting, present. And with this other being who, you know, hold space for me and has been for years. And it was such a breakthrough. It was such a breakthrough. And all we did was sit there. So all we did, and it was a, can I carry it? Can I say curse words?
Sophia Wise One 13:31
Yeah.
Brittany Policastro 13:32
And it was a fucking break. I needed to say it, it felt like it needed to come up. It was and then the week after I had like, an even bigger breakthrough, which was different, you know, much different flavor. But like, who knows if I would have been able to have second breakthrough without the first breakthrough of space and presence.
Sophia Wise One 13:53
Yeah, cool.
Brittany Policastro 13:56
Yeah.
Sophia Wise One 13:58
I feel that it's like, yeah, it's really moving in me really feel that. The sequence of medicine like that, I think so, and that's why trusting, like, radical trust in the healing process where it's like, I'm empty and have no thoughts. It's like lean in, right? It's like I'm spilling over with a million thoughts like lean in, like, I've feel so quote, unquote, distracted and all I want to do is like, take care of material things. And it's like, take care of things like that to.
Brittany Policastro 14:25
Do it.
Sophia Wise One 14:25
Do it! They're all part of what like living isn't how we move our energy or move our, our, our even our self perspective, like how the needle of how we experience ourselves or perceive ourselves shifts when we take care of the mundane in our life or sit in silence in a way that we never have, or you know, orgasm 10 times for the first time ever, like in sequence, right? Like we become it, we orient differently to our own self when we, when we do any of these things. And so it's like, that reorientation that, then creates the opportunity for whatever's coming next.
Brittany Policastro 15:05
Yes, absolutely. And, you know, I think as healers and the end seekers and people who you know, are on this, this, quote, unquote, when I say quote, unquote, because, you know, it's, it's kind of a narrative,

This is a show of alchemy, where we turn poison into medicine, disconnection into wisdom and isolated wounds into communal peacemaking. Here's your host, Sophia Wise One. Do you already know everything that I could do to? Do you already know everything I could say? We are here to remind you but you already, already, already know. I'm excited. I'm honored. What a time. What a time to be alive. I'm going to have already all over the place. Okay. I'm going to tell you a little bit about our guest. I'm going to tell you a little bit. No, where do I start? Okay. All right. I'm going to tell you, this is who it okay. Joan Price calls herself an advocate for ageless sexuality. And if they do, it's really kind of sidelines and sex after grief navigating your sexuality after losing your beloved, is the first book to address sex and grief together and treat sex as normal positive life a forming part of emerging from grief that's a huge part of grief or vitality our sexuality. Joan Price 06:17
I'm sorry, I shouldn't be laughing at your introduction, but you surprise me. Please continue.
Sophia Wise One 06:26
She is a treasure among treasures. And she is the incomplete embodiment of, of vulnerability, grace and sexiness vitality and beauty. Joan, I am just beside myself, I have been so delighted to bring you on the show and to share you and to share your your richness with my listeners. So please welcome to the show. Welcome. Welcome. Welcome.
Joan Price 06:51
Oh, thank you. I am thrilled to be here too. I appreciate this so much.
Sophia Wise One 06:57
I am just you know, I think one of the things I want to say is one of the things that I think both of us are pretty. I was you know very specific about it being like let's talk about sex after grief and your response being like, yeah, it's really important. Let's talk about that. And I just want to say like, senior sex is like, like, like, duh, like, everything in our life gets richer. And I had this epiphany when I was in my 20s, where I realized that I had thought that getting older just meant like you got less happy that I had this like on unconscious belief system that just getting older meant you got less happy. And that's when I decided that I was like, that's not going to be true. I'm going to get happier every year of my life. And go ahead.
Joan Price 07:42
I love that attitude. That is that is so precious. And I know that you have many years to go before you're my age, many decades to go before you're my age. But I hope you can keep doing that. And I hope each year you can look back and say, Yeah, I really was happier last year than the year before. And, and Yay, you go next year.
Sophia Wise One 08:06
Right? Exactly like building on it and that radical belief to like, flip that. And I so it's been an interesting thing to have that apply. And to ask those questions as I've done my sexuality, like reclamation and expansion and claiming to recognize that my happiness and my creativity, my vitality, my body pleasure, my Yeah, those ripples that that's part of that happiness. And so, you know, you coming into my life was definitely a part of reaffirming that happiness. And pleasure includes that, right that growth of just like, on and on and on and like, and I was thinking about this actually, I was just talking about you, with my with my sister before coming on. And I was just very excited about it. And, and I was saying that, Oh, I forgot where I was going with that. That's okay. But so anyway, it's just a great celebration. I'd love you to speak. I want I do I have questions about grief. I have questions about your story. I have questions about everything. And I also just want to say, why don't you just take a moment, Joan and just just share what's on your heart and mind in this moment. kind of bring yourself in a little bit if there's a story or if I've stirred something, I don't want to put you on the spot, but just an invitation to bring you in.
Joan Price 09:23
I love I love being on the spot. Okay, if you're on the spot, it means you can have a spotlight right?
Sophia Wise One 09:30
Take it away, Joan.
Joan Price 09:32
So so what I'm thinking with what you just said, is that in my own life being 77 now and happy to say that out loud. I don't know why people aren't I don't know why people think oh, no, I can't admit how old I am. I'm so happy about how old I am. I almost died before my 35th birthday. And maybe that gives me a different perspective on why every year brings so much more joy. But it does. And here I am more than doubling the number of years that I in some ways was meant to have. And each each year has brought me more self knowledge, more knowledge about other people more understanding about what I have to give and how to give it. And, and with that, I mean, both personally and professionally, not just sexually, but in all ways. Because we are an inter woven fabric of ways we relate in the world. It isn't just that we are a sex educator or a podcast or whatever it is. One thing is you're focusing on, we have all of these threads and all of these patches of our past of our present I had no idea was gonna say that. Look what you bring out in me already.
Sophia Wise One 10:55
Come on in. That's the Lynn darling.
Joan Price 10:57
This is your world right and I am tiptoeing through it.
Sophia Wise One 11:03
Welcome, welcome. So happy to have you here that. That I mean? Yeah, I mean, almost dying before the age of 35. They'll really change perspective on what it is to be alive, I imagine. Right? So that was not a small thing. That's a big thing.
Joan Price 11:22
It absolutely did. It was a huge thing. And part of it was really having to fight to come back to life. I made the diss You're such a spiritual person. I know you'll understand this and relate to it. But as I was dying, I did see my life flashing before me but not not episodically. I saw the people that I had loved, flashing before me, alive and deceased. And with each picture that flashed in front of my eyes, the question that I had to answer was, does this person know how much I love or love them? And if so, is it okay to go now? And I'm serious when you know, there was an old boyfriend, there was my mother, there were people in my life at the time there were just flashing flash flash flash. And each one I would go Yes, yes, yes. And I realized, I realized after that was done, and I decided, Okay, I could go now. But I don't want to, I want the rest of my life. And so I came back in my body. And this is something that I don't mind telling people about it. Although I know a lot of people will go, oh, how Whoo, you were just semi conscious and hallucinating. I don't know. It doesn't matter. What matters is the revelation that we do need to always be up to date in letting people know that we love them. We can't have, well, we'll patch up this argument tomorrow. Or I wonder if I should reconnect. And now I don't think that person even thinks to me anymore. Whatever it is, that stops us from being up to date and sharing the love we feel for people. It is our job, I think our job as people have been living to do that in any way we can. And at the time of this automobile accident. I was a high school English teacher. And months later, when I was ready to go back to teaching, I had many, many injuries. But when I was back in teaching, I shared the story with people. And the next day, students would come into my classroom and say things like, I told my mother I loved her and she cried. I mean, a 16 year old probably hasn't told her mother that she loved her for half a dozen year.
Sophia Wise One 14:06
Right.
Joan Price 14:08
And things like that happen. It's like there's a ripple. I do this and share it. Look what can happen. And in a way I you know, I feel I'm still living my life that way. What can I share that will have a ripple effect that will be a positive in people's lives. I didn't know I was gonna talk about that either. What did you do to me?
Sophia Wise One 14:33
How did you how do you how do you gain like clarity of self is the question that I want to say like knowing that we're continually evolving, right that there's a continuity of self right. There's like, there's a way in which it's like yeah, I've always been, there's an element that's like this is always kind of come along with me. I found that in my own kind of massive rebirth and transformation. It's like I'm more of myself afterwards even if there's a lot of me that's changed. There's like a trueness. But this notion of like, kind of getting clear about am I current like, how do you how do you check in? Do you do that consciously? Is that just a way of being now? Is that something you do on purpose? Or is it like just woven in? How do you know if you've? How do you know when you need to catch? Catch it?
Joan Price 15:25
I think it's all of those. At first, it was very deliberate. What if this was all the time I have? You know, what if this is going to be the next time that happens in this time, I won't come back to life. So at first, it was very deliberate. And then it became a habit, it became a way that made me happy to live. Because I felt in the present, I felt authentic. I attracted people who liked that in me, and I, and the people who didn't learn away. I mean, people went away. Let's be clear. People went away.
Sophia Wise One 16:07
Yeah.
Joan Price 16:08
People who didn't value authenticity, the way I did, or or were intimidated by the kind of communication that's important to me to have. And I don't mean a confrontational communication. But I mean, let's be clear. And here's where I am on what you just said, or did. And here's what I'd really love and how would that work for you? There are ways to be clear, and there are ways to be. I mean, there are ways to be assertive and ways to be aggressive. And I don't consider myself aggressive. But I, we don't ever know how much time we have. So why don't we live as if what we have is what we have?
Sophia Wise One 16:50
Yeah.
Joan Price 16:51
And then if there are things that need fixing, what are we waiting for? And I hear this from the people, my followers will sometimes Tell me. After my spouse died, I discovered all these secrets that went through his phone, whatever it might have been discovered these secrets. What could I have done differently, and they're feeling haunted by it? Sometimes they feel my relationship was a lie. No, it wasn't a lie, we just have secrets. And the more you can encourage people, to, to reveal themselves to be fully authentic with you will be based maybe on how you judge them, if they try it.
Sophia Wise One 17:39
Thrilled, some people.
Joan Price 17:40
Some people just won't want to do it. And maybe they're not the ones you want to be with. But the people who wish they could maybe that person who had secrets on his phone would have loved to tell you what those secrets were, but was scared. And in fact, the fact that in finding those secrets, you said our relationship was a lie. Maybe it was a good reason that he hid them. So I learned from so many people who confide in me what they wish they had done, or maybe what they don't know when they don't know what to do. And if I have good advice, or given if I just need to listen, I'll listen. I learn all the time from the people who come to me for advice. So it's always expanding. And I'm sure you find that too. We learn from everyone we interact with that.
Sophia Wise One 18:31
Yeah. It's so powerful, what you're talking about this this seat of authenticity and this notion of I just thinking about that, right? It's like the other the flip side of coming across something and just delighting in knowing more about someone, right? And then I saw the rest of them, right? Like, I wish I could have seen more of it or to just what it is to inherently trust someone in a way so that when you find their secrets, they're precious. Right? Like, that's, you know, that that is what I hear. It's like the the love story, the potential love story in that right that the, the the trusted kindness. And I was just this morning, just this morning, Joan and I was writing about, I was writing about, let's see, I have it right here. I started, I started to draw a flower and then got very quiet and very quiet and got very still and I am taking care of one of my...
Darling Dears!
Sophia comes out of the new baby haze to record this raw and informative show. Brittany expresses how she is actively doing her part to restore autonomy in the laboring process. She mentions the education and resources she provides to expecting families. She utilizes her knowledge of pelvic biomechanics and labor movement. In this episode, Brittany mentions, “And you know, one of the things I tell people all the time is that no matter what position it is, it's not going to be good. If you're in it for three hours, movement frequently is really, really important.”
Sophia and Brittany discuss the goal of decreasing unnecessary intervention, restoring autonomy to the person giving birth in medicated and unmedicated births, and also helping to provide comfort in labor and better oxygenate the baby as well.

The difference between a singleton and twins is something like the difference between like our moon and Jupiter. like Jupiter, Jupiter's 300 Earths. And like, the moon, and twins are Jupiter. It's like, so wild. It's like even with five adults in the house twins still feel insane.
Sophia Wise One 00:21
With three adults with one baby, it's like, Did laundry, made food, I got like six hours of sleep. My brother got like, you know, just like I was like, Wow, this is so different. And like, adults is like very, very helpful and necessary. I would not want them to do it with less at all. But yeah, twins was just insane.
Sophia Wise One 00:39
I mean, I literally got an average of like, one to three hours of sleep for 16 days. Oh my gosh. Wow. Like not no exaggeration. Like I'm like, those are some wild drugs like besides between the oxytocin and like, body drugs of the twins or just being like babies. I haven't slept in 16 years like, guys. Oh, so hard. I've been, I've been saying the past week I've been weaning off of sleep deprivation.
Brittany McCollum 01:07
Yeah, totally. You have to and I feel like for parents, that's the biggest thing. That's the thing that comes up more often than not, it's how can they manage to get more sleep? And it's, there's really no answer because babies sleep patterns are so erratic, they're so all over the place, the routines don't last more than a day or two. And I feel like it's so futile trying to incorporate a routine before babies are ready, because you just you just can't and then you're stressed out.
Sophia Wise One 01:32
And then you're stressed because it's not working. And that's easy for me. Because I use up my own life, I use a body based cycle anyway, like, I went through a massive kind of initiation transformation a few years ago. And I basically only slept one or two sleep cycles between like two to three hours at a time for my own self. And I'd wake up and I would just be like, okay, now I'm awake.
Sophia Wise One 01:57
And so I would like meditate or do yoga or do a thing, I would just like practice in the middle of the day. And it just was this process of really untangling my like, identity associated with like sleep and needing sleep and not losing sleep and energy and in relationship to sleep.
Sophia Wise One 02:12
So I took that totally shifted for me years ago. So with the babies and stuff, it would just be like, Oh, I'd like watch, I'd be like, okay, you don't need me right now. I'm going to disappear. And I would just like do a guided meditation or do my own meditation or give myself Reiki and pass out for like an hour. And I'd wake up or wake up every, like 20 minutes, and I go down for 20 minutes.
Sophia Wise One 02:32
And I can be like, I'm back. And my brother in law was like, how do you do that? And I was like, only 30 years of practice, casual. It's casual. I've trained my whole being to decide what state of consciousness I'm in when I need to be. So don't blame yourself. I'm an alien. It's fine.
Brittany McCollum 02:49
Yeah, but that's incredible. And it probably makes things so much easier when you're in a situation with newborns.
Sophia Wise One 02:54
Oh, my God. Newborn rhythm is like, it's like make sense to me. Like it's not I'm like, this is the thing. Sometimes this is what life is like. And then it changes. Like, it'll change. I didn't I'm not like that. I wasn't like that all the time. It just was months. And then it changed.
Samantha Rise 03:09
I'm Samantha rise, and welcome to vagina talks, where we speak about to and from vaginas. This is a show of alchemy, where we turn poison into medicine, disconnection into wisdom and isolated wounds into communal peacemaking. here's your host, Sophia Wise One.
Sophia Wise One 03:27
You already know everything they could teach you. You already know everything they could say. We are here to remind you what you already already already know.
Sophia Wise One 03:45
I just want to take a minute to acknowledge that Vagina Talks understands that gender is fluid and dynamic and goes way beyond the binary of either woman or man, she or him. And that, in fact, it's a living and evolving thing that's actually personal person to person. And that our bodies, even our understanding, or the ways that we experienced them can vary.
Sophia Wise One 04:12
It's important for me that that's something that has space here on Vagina Talks. And at the same time, I also am carrying this understanding that womanhood and the experience of the feminine and all of the female, in the splitting of that binary, has been injured has been hurt has been dismantled.
Sophia Wise One 04:33
And so I'm looking to have a space where the feminine and the female and the female body is reclaimed and respected and lifted and inspected and known, as well as a space that goes beyond the binary and that acknowledges that these are limited constructs, mostly put upon us and that we're in the process of evolving into something more whole and more true.
Sophia Wise One 04:58
Just wanted to say that, some of my guests will use incredibly binary language for whatever reason from the places that they come from. And I just wanted to let you know that Vagina Talks has a much wider understanding, and it's a living one. So feel free to chime in as we go along. Without further ado, today's episode.
Sophia Wise One 05:21
Hello beauties and welcome back to Vagina Talks. I am your host, they call me Sophia, Wise One. O-M-G. This is the first show I've been recording since my sisters gave birth, I haven't been talking about it because one of my sisters is incredibly private. And so that's an always an interesting thing. When I get really involved in her life, I stopped talking about my personal life in my work.
Sophia Wise One 05:46
And it's interesting because in my new relationships, I tell people, I'm like, if you want to be close with me, I will literally broadcast our business across the internet in print, video and vocal form. But I don't get that same chance disclosure with my family. And so with my sister's pregnancy, it became quiet and inside the house time. Well, both of my sisters were pregnant. Now both of my sisters are parents.
Sophia Wise One 06:14
And I have had the honor and privilege of living with them through these newborn windows. I had twins and niblings that were born in January, and another nibling that was born in February. And we have a guest here today who I met through preparing for those for those babies. And I was just given a major compliment, which is that I sound like a new parent in the way that I feel like I'm like at 100%. But when I went to read out loud, I could barely read. And it's just in process, taking a couple weeks to integrate and take care of my own life before diving back into auntal/auntie, landscape and baby tending OMG what a magic magic.
Sophia Wise One 07:05
I don't know, what is this OMG thing I'm doing? I don't know. It's like, let's take a trip to the 90s. And yeah, so that's, that's where I am. That's just so where I am. I'm incredibly excited to bring with you an incredible resource, a brilliant facilitator and teacher and I will tell you a little bit about her and then we're just gonna jump in here and take take a journey and share, share what we can.
Sophia Wise One 07:31
Okay, so her name is Brittany Sharp McCollum and she's a certified childbirth educator and a certified doula and is the owner of blossoming bellies, holistic birth services based out of the Greater Philadelphia area, providing childbirth education classes, birth doula services and pelvic biomechanics training workshops for birth professionals and expectant parents since 2007.
Sophia Wise One 07:58
That's where we met on the internet. She is honored to be a sought after guest presenting on pelvic biomechanics at international childbirth related conferences, including the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association Summit of 2018, the Evidence Based Birth Conference in 2019, and then Midwifery Forward 2020 conference among many others. So obviously a sought after we got her here, excited about that Brittany lives in South Jersey with her partner and their three children. Brittany, welcome to the show.
Brittany McCollum 08:33
Thank you for having me. I'm so excited to be here. It's funny hearing people like read a bio about yours. Like it's just such an awkward. I keep going back thinking like, should have worded that differently. But it, but I appreciate you sharing all that information.
Sophia Wise One 08:51
Yeah, it took me a really...bios used to be the most like one of the most painful and annoying things about my work for a long time. And I just kept free I mean, it just, I'm 15 years into writing it and I something finally clicked were like, I like kind of I care more and I care less about it.
Sophia Wise One 09:10
It's like a real, it's a real thing. It's like here's a snippet of context. So you and I met we were doing an infant care class, my sister and and we did this infant care class and you were just so I could tell every sentence that you said you had another 45 minute talk behind every sentence and I was like that's the that's what I'm looking for here. That's what I'm looking for.
Sophia Wise One 09:39
So I'm just excited to have you here. And the thing that you know I also looking a little bit more into your work and co seeing the pelvic biomechanics. Something that obviously as a you know, pelvic floor specialist chapter of my life is something that I'm really into and empowerment during birth people having a sense of ownership or even more so than ownership, autonomy and capability around their body are two things that really inspired me and wanted to bring you on and share you with my listeners.
Brittany McCollum 10:16
Thank you already, there's like 20 million things that I want to say in response to all these words you're using.
Sophia Wise One 10:24
Pick one and go beauty.
Brittany McCollum 10:26
Um, let's see. So all right, I'll start at the beginning, you said that when we met in the infant care class, I have to say, though, I have to tell I have to tell the story too, because we were in a virtual group, infant care class, it's virtual. So I'm just seeing people on their screens. And you know, we're talking and chatting.
Brittany McCollum 10:44
And I didn't know you were there. I mean, you had a question. So you were like, you were like, excuse me? I'm here listening. And I have a question. And I was like, who are you? But it was great. It was awesome. Because you were there to learn and absorb and just be part of that experience for your sister and her partner. And it was like, that is just so amazing.
Brittany McCollum 11:08
So I wish that you had showed your face sooner. But I was so excited that you were there. And even more so than just being there and listening. So excited that you were thinking about the information and like, like thinking to the point where you had questions.
Brittany McCollum 11:22
I love when people ask questions in the classes that I teach. And when people don't ask questions, I always think like, how could they not have questions? How can there not being more things that they want to know about? or How could this not have triggered something else? You know, so I was super excited. But it was also super funny, because I didn't even know you were there. You were like, I have a question.
Sophia Wise One 11:40
I was like, I have a question. Because they start it, you know, I'm like, orbiting, I'm living in their house, I'm orbiting, we're doing all the things they had this class, you know, and I was like, yeah, I'll try to like, you know, catch some of it and be around. So you guys had started, and I was finishing what I was doing. And I came downstairs. So I'm sitting on the edge of the couch so everyone can picture this. It's a zoom image, right?
Sophia Wise One 12:00
So the zoom image has my sister and her partner framed on the on the screen, you know, and then literally, I'm like sitting there and I'm like, I'm just listening. And this question is like, not going away. I'm like, this feels really important, you know, so that I was like, Hi, I'm the creepy odd like, literally the creeper in the corner that nobody knew is there. Like, it was awkward for me to, like, hop in on that, but but your babies and reframed it, so then my face was in the picture. It was Yeah. So,
Brittany McCollum 12:35
And then the another thing you said that I love, and literally could talk about for hours is autonomy and birth, and how important that is, and how it is not tied to the way that a person chooses to give birth and should not be tied to their place of birth, but instead really comes from this sense of understanding what their rights are, and how to advocate for themselves and how to communicate effectively with their providers.
Brittany McCollum 13:00
And I think when we restore that autonomy to the laboring person, it helps them to have this positive experience that they can look back on and feel really good about. There's this kind of like idea in the birth community that people should be coming out of their births feeling like they did something really amazing, rather than feeling like something happened to them.
Brittany McCollum 13:20
And so when we restore that autonomy, and again, like, it doesn't matter how someone is birthing that should be that literally should be someone's right and all births, whether it's vaginal, or cesarean with pain medication, without pain...
Eden Edge shares her of menarche journey and how it led her to establishing business to provide education and convenient resources for menstruating women. “And so for five years, I stopped my menstrual flow for five years, I suffocated myself, my reproductive system, my vagina, all of that. And so after those five years were up, I, which would put me in 2012 I have suffered my body, as far as trying to get my body back on track, it's really taken that long.” She mentions how she discovers disturbing information about sanitary napkins and the chemicals that were put in the napkins. “They're companies that are allowed to use a chemical that elongates the cycle. Over time, the more you use these products, it's going to make that cycle longer.”
In this episode, Eden Edge informs the Vagina Talk listeners about her mission to support and educate others who have had similar experiences. She exchanges her view on how to create a place that provides healthier product options and information to women on how to care for their bodies.

About Eden Edge
In 2012, Eden Edge was forced to terminate her baby due to an ectopic pregnancy. After consulting with her physician and doing a little research, she found out that her uterine wall and fallopian tubes had chemical scarring. Eden's physician stated that the type of birth control she was using along with certain feminine care products were filled with harmful chemicals such as chloroform, aluminum, and acetone. Her body had been absorbing these chemicals for over five years! Hearing this information was tough but it was then that Eden decided to adapt some healthier habits.
Hygeniee provides feminine hygiene care products that are organic, all-natural, chemical & toxin free, and made by Women! Their mission is to deliver a unique collection of items to each customer’s home, every single month. They have a dedicated team of professionals who pick out quality items to include in each box.

And that, in fact, it's a living an evolving thing that's actually personal person to person. And that our bodies, even our understanding, or the ways that we experience them can vary. It's important for me that that's something that has space here on Vagina Talks.
Welcome back to Vagina Talks my love's I am Sophia Wise One, Daughter of the Wind Spider Queen. They call me Sophia and I am happy happy to be here with you today. A little update on my life. I have both my sisters have been pregnant this past year, and one of them gave birth this week. So I have been ushered into a new realm Our family has grown and transitioned. And I am incredibly excited. I'm currently in Philadelphia, to be with my family in this time of transition, potting up one sister at a time to be part of this time, and I am humbled, I am excited.
And at the same time, I also am carrying this understanding that womanhood and the experience of the feminine and all of the female, in the splitting of that binary, has been injured has been hurt has been dismantled.
And I am feeling the energy of new life, the new moon just coming through this new moon. That happened probably when you're listening, it's going to be a couple weeks ago, but this this January, New Moon this shifting of times we are we're we are at the turning point my brother and I were talking about we're gonna call these babies, the turning point babies, the children that are coming in, in this time this turning point we've decided we have decided this now here these days, these hours these weeks, these months, these years are the years that the world is turning into the world that we have dreamt it to be.
So I want to give thanks to all the babies coming in. I want to give thanks to all the beings that are stepping out of the planet and off of the planet. Because the birth death door is the same door as I have been taught and as I have experienced. And so this is a time the turning point time is a time where we are coming and we are going and we are weaving something new. So it is a powerful, powerful time, which is what you're going to hear me say on every episode because that is what life is life is power. It has potential. It is a moment it is a breath over and over and over again.
And it's the remembering of the truth of that that brings us into our center and brings us into our, mhmmm. It's our center and what happens there, peace. I want to talk about power and I want to talk about peace. Yeah, that's how we come into our peace. We're turning towards peace and we are committing to weaving and creating peace. So thank you for all the work that you've been doing in your families in your own heart in your own home, in your own grieving and you're raging and you're quieting and you're courageous and you're dreaming and your actions and you're stepping into this world.
I'm excited to bring I have a guest today that I'm excited I'm really excited to bring on because she is the epitome of someone who has taken that knowing of the own strife and turning it into servicing gift, and it's really focused on vaginas. So like double bonus here for us today. I'm excited to bring her in here and have her start sharing her stories.
Eden Edge
It is very, very delightful to be here, Sophia, and I just got to tell you. I feel come for it. I feel comforting right now. very comforting. I feel like crying. But it's a good cry. I there is such a welcoming spirit right here. I that is the first time I've ever been into introduced as the founder and CEO of Hygeniee. And I am going to deem it the best regardless of what happens from here on out just there's I feel low, I feel. Yes. So I this is going to be very, very powerful. I already know it.
Sophia Wise One
Welcome Eden. Welcome. Welcome. And congratulations. I just I am so excited for you when I when I met Eden and I met through this app that I'm in really into these days called club house. As as you all know, I like to talk. And it's a talking based app. And I am just so excited because your presence, your generosity of spirit is so palpable to me. And you are here to take good care and help people take good care of vaginas.
So like, obviously, I am really, really, really into it. And I'm excited about that growth for you, like many, many, so many blessings on every introduction of the Co-Founder and CEO of Hygeniee. Beautiful. Whoo. Yes. Awesome.
So I just like I kind of like Which way do I want to go, I want to ask you a kind of about product, like you already said it, I want to ask you, I'm going to ask you, I am I'm going to ask you, I want to ask you, what is you're in your vagina and your womb and your heart like in your body right now? What is what is alive? And what is that part of you want to say to say right now? Like, what, from that place? What does that place in you have to say, in this moment.
Eden Edge
That there is so much beauty in the vagina. There's so much beauty in what it does. I mean, like, life enters and exits from that one place. And it should be embraced more. You know, typically, I've been taught to look at it as a body part. And it is, but it's so much more. There's so much more. Like I said, it's the beginning of like, I it creates life. Like is the entry point for for growth, and well being and all of that, you know? Absolutely. Absolutely.
Sophia Wise One
I and when I feel you speak about that. It's this like the honoring and the like boldness of it. I just had this flash of like, you know how there's just been like sculptures of like, men, everywhere, all over this country for a long time. I just had this flash of just like, and this is happening anyway, like the vulva art that has been emerging but like huge, like, you know, 16 foot sculptures of vulva and vaginal canals and cervixes. Like, opening and you know, and I love all I love all genitals and they all have a magic to them.
And I think as we heal and reclaim and take good care of vaginas, it inspires vaginas. I had this feeling this feeling, and I was like, vaginas want to bring everything with everyone with them. You know, I always say like, a whole, unhealed wound give space for the, the entirety of whatever needs to be, grow into its fullest. Right?
So like vaginas, and wombs and their whole state want the best, healthiest penises and anuses and digestive systems and brains and bodies and hearts of all bodies and all beings like that's what vaginas want. That's what they're made for is to let receive and to create and make and to peck perpetuate them. So yeah, that was that's what happened for it got really, it got really grandiose as you were talking. Yeah,
flags and shout out to if people don't know and haven't checked it out in London. I think it may be a couple years ago now a museum opened the vagina museum opened. And it's gotten great press and, and they've been doing awesome work. So even if you don't know about it, I definitely recommend you checking them out. And any of you listeners look up the vagina museum. They've been they've been really embracing and bringing out this this idea of of the imagery, the brilliance. So,
Eden Edge
That's awesome.
Sophia Wise One
So tell us about tell us about Hygeniee. Like, what is it? And how did you get into it?
Okay. Like a simple little start. Good start, like give us a little bit of Hygeniee. Like what that's about a little bit, and then Okay, yeah, we'll keep it keep it. Okay. We'll start there.
Eden Edge
Okay. Okay, so what Hygeniee is, it's a subscription box service that supplies all natural feminine products. And that includes anything from tampons to pads to fresheners to oils, to relieve you of cramps, to heating patches to washes, two wipes, two liners, anything that has to do with your vagina and the vagina cells. And they are all natural materials made with all natural ingredients that our toxin free. toxin free, toxin free, toxin free,
No carcinogens. None, nothing cancer causing. Because in case anyone didn't know, that's what a carcinogen is. And so no cancer causing products. And I started Hygeniee because I found that there were not many avenues to find these products.
So it was with me thinking about all the other women that would have the issue of Okay, well, when I go into a store, big box store, I typically see these products, you know, and so, of course, by nature, whatever we see that so what we purchase, you know, and I want it to give an option to purchase other items. So it's like okay, basically, I've created a Walmart, but for all natural fitness products. That's the goal. That's the goal.
I love it, you're the Come come to it, right, you've gathered all of these well made caregiving products in one place. And then and then you send them in a in a box, right? You send them in a box, right and get in a package. Love it. So beautiful.
Sophia Wise One
So we were talking a little bit before we got on the show here today. And you started to tell me about kind of the distance like you've come a long way, right from beings from being someone who's like, let me tell you about the anatomy of a vagina and evolve and what is healthy for you. That's not where you started.
Eden Edge
Definitely not. What I started was what's a vulva?
Sophia Wise One
Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. So, uh, you know, I think one of the powerful place to start we started to talk about this was ministration. Did you were you prepared? Were you did you know what was gonna happen or what it would mean or any of that stuff kind of how I feel like you started telling me the story.
This is the truth. Even started telling me this story and, and I was like, I got it. I gotta go, babe. I gotta I gotta go. We'll talk. What's it called? come back to this. I want to hear this story. So bringing it back in, you started to tell me about your menarche, your first menstruation. And, and I would love if you would tell me, tell me about that could kind of tell me tell me the story you started.
Eden Edge
Okay. Okay, so here it goes. Mmm hmm. I was definitely ill prepared. Like, on the bottom of bottomest levels. I was ill prepared. When I start, I don't even remember if I...I think I just understood that I would start bleeding one day, that was how I understood it. One day, you're going to start bleeding. I had never had a discussion with anyone about it just I remember fifth grade talking about it in that one little two hours sex education class that they just kind of crammed everything into, but I bleed one day.
So I was in seventh grade. Actually, now I was in sixth grade. I was in sixth grade. And I was at a UGA football game with my best friend and his mom. And I go to the bathroom, just in there using the bathroom. And it's full of people because I mean, it's a UGA game and it's full of people. And I go to the bathroom. And I pull down my underwear and there's just I just red. You just see red.
And in my mind I'm like, Oh, no, I think this is what that video was talking about. And oh, no, I don't know what to do. I don't have anything. I don't know where to go to get something. I don't I'm not even sure if the bathrooms at that time supplied like that vending machine with the products. But even then, I'm standing with Okay, what's the liner? What's the pad? What's the tampon?
So, I remember leaving out of the bathroom. Like not knowing what to do. And I believe my friend was standing outside of the bathroom where the men's bathroom was. And I told him, like, I didn't have anyone else to tell. So I was like, I think my period is on because there was a lot of blood. And he was like, we'll just and I think we both kind of understood that this was the first time we didn't say it. But he was like, we just go to the bathroom and just get a bunch of tissue.
And so I went to the bathroom and I got a bunch of tissue. And I you know, put it in my underwear. And when I did that. First thing is I remember it being the beginning of the game. So this is not like a halftime situation. This is like first quarter of the UGA football game. And I'm sitting here leaking blood I don't understand, you know, if it's like this is gonna come out like this river or like a you know, a running faucet? I'm not I don't know. I don't know.
And so that was my first experience of my cycle. And just I don't even remember when I had the conversation with my mom when I got home. I don't actually remember I think when I got home, I think I took a bath. And I think I might have gone in her drawer and found something that I had seen her use, which was a pad and I remember putting the pad on and going to sleep. And that was that. Yeah.
Sophia Wise One
Wow. When you tell that story now, like your present self, and you look back to this young Eden, what do you want to say to her?
Eden Edge
I would say it's okay. I would say It's okay, because that Eden was fearful. And that Eden didn't believe that she had the resources for help. Yeah. I had a mom that lived in my home, but was out of reach.
Sophia Wise One
Mm hmm.
Eden Edge
So,
Sophia Wise One
I want...

She states, "You know, it's little moments that we minimize, that are really the biggest moments, you know, and I'm so glad to have that hypersensitive personality, you know, to be an empath, you know, for others, because I know what it's like to not have that.?" Jen mentions how she is sharing my story and connecting with people to help liberate people who feel that they aren't qualified or those who feel their story isn't worth sharing.

Samantha Rise
I'm Samantha Rise, and welcome to vagina talks, where we speak about to from vaginas. This is a show of alchemy, where we turn poison into medicine, disconnection into wisdom and isolated wounds into communal peacemaking. Here's your host, Sophia Wise One.
Sophia Wise One
You already know everything they could teach you you already know everything they could say. We are here to remind you what you already already already know.
I just want to take a minute to acknowledge that Vagina Talks understands that gender is fluid and dynamic and goes way beyond the binary of either woman or man, she or him. And that, in fact, it's a living and evolving thing that's actually personal person to person. And that our bodies, even our understanding, or the ways that we experience them can vary.
It's important for me that that's something that has space here on vagina talks. And at the same time, I also am carrying this understanding that womanhood and the experience of the feminine and all of the female, in the splitting of that binary, has been injured has been hurt has been dismantled.
Hi, everybody, and welcome back to Vagina Talks. I am your host today. Many things aren't we all think we're so many things identity, the role that I'm playing at the moment is host of a podcast called Vagina Talks. They call me Sophia, Wise One and I'm happy to be with you today. Oh, my goodness, what is happening? Change is the thing. And if you're just joining me today, then maybe I should let you know. That's mostly what I'm talking about all the time.
And if you're with me, then you're with me for the ride. And you know that change is the name of the game change is the name and the song of life. That's what living is it is shifting and changing. And as we move into greater alignment, it doesn't seem that that change slows down. At times, it gets easier at times, it gets harder. And for me recently it has gotten faster we are in sometimes the Great Awakening or the great enlightenment that we're in the midst of is also referred to as the quickening the phrase in the New Age world that talks about what it is to be in this great time of expansive consciousness. And one of the phrases is the quickening.
So if you're feeling that quickening energy right now of like, Oh my gosh, has all of that happened since I woke up this morning. It's been six days and one day, I just want you to know. Yes, it has. It's been six days in one day. We have a guest here today that I'm really excited to share with you. We just have one of those connections that I know is going to be sweet. And I'm excited to see what comes out of it. Another visionary, precious, brave human bringing their creative self into the world. Jen Amos has been an entrepreneur since 2010.
Which for those of you who don't know that is an...well everybody knows...and maybe you don't. Being an entrepreneur is like a warrior class. The like nerd in me is what I mean it's like it's a magic class. It's a warrior class. It's a real thing. It's a real training. It's a real getting to know yourself process, a real awakening process, which includes sales and marketing experience in the legal industry, online marketing and now financial services. This is some concretized material stuff here. It's powerful, powerful work.
She's also been a podcaster since the summer of 2019 and enjoys talking about her personal experiences with military families, entrepreneurship, the POC experience and mental health. And when I asked Jen, what her vagina's superpower was, she said, resilience. So Jen, welcome to the show.
Jen Amos
Hey, Sophia, thanks for having me. It's great to be here.
Sophia Wise One
That's really really good to just be together. I, you know, I'm sitting here and I'm like, you know, resilience is such a, such an incredible gift. And also a really been in my own softening right now, in this process of like softening in my body and softening in my heart really letting my heart heal, really letting my heart open really choosing the courage to like, I'm going to let myself soften, right.
And to say like, true resiliency, I think is very, like dynamic, right? It's like very it has a lot of give back has a lot of softness to it. That's like part of the factor, you know, but just I really been dreaming into the world where we don't have to, like, be so smart at getting through. You know what I mean?
Jen Amos
I think when the way when you think of when you say that, be so smart, like we don't have to be so smart to get through the way that I interpret that is to kind of live life anyway, despite not knowing all the answers. So that's how I interpret what you just said.
Sophia Wise One
Fair, totally fair. Yeah, I just, I feel like there's this aspect of, well, it's like, I think now I'm like, my brain is going so it's like the divine feminine, or like the great mother the great I'm like really in this mother healing zone that's happening right now. And it's, it's really happening around me I have, it's happening with a number of people that I live with right now.
And I did a card reading for someone this week. And, and his theme was mother and learning how to, like mother and care for and like the mothering to me as an archetype or as a role of particular kind of caregiving, and, and listening as a kind of like listening and presence and all of that. And so there is this part of me that just is like, why is I really feel like, Why does it have to be so hard?
Like, and like, maybe it doesn't. And I think that's what I'm dreaming into is like the paradigm or the concept or like my own healing of like really stepping into what does it look like and feel like? And how is it possible? We've been so convinced that like abuse, war, rape, trauma, like all that these things are normal, and then we just have to get through them. And I really think this is a big piece of the abolish the police thing of just being like, well, we have to protect stuff. And it's like not if we stop being so fucking destructive actually, like, there's like, there's another whole nother thing, a whole nother way of seeing the world or experiencing the world that then requires a different kind of protection or showing up.
Jen Amos
Yeah, absolutely. When you said Why is it so hard? Were you kind of asking why healing is so hard, like why that process is so hard.
Sophia Wise One
I was saying like, why is it so hard? I was saying like, why is the dominant culture such a fuckin torrent torturer like it? You know, like, why did that catch on? You know, why is that been the...
You know, I think in general, I think that life is suffering. I think I mean, otherwise, we would be in another universe where we don't have to suffer. And I think if we can accept that feeling of why is it so hard, may not go away, but at least it could be more manageable, like saying that to ourselves like this is rather than saying this is so hard, it doesn't have to be our hang up. It doesn't have to be our excuse. You know, if anything, it's our motivator, right? To reduce the suffering. You know, yeah, the catalysts.
Totally, reduce the suffering, right? To what end? And I think that's the part that I'm like challenging myself, or inviting or giving myself permission to go so far out to be the like to really, really be the idealist to be like the radical visionary that's like, how about this becomes the other universe, or the other dimension, where suffering is no longer the catalyst of growth and evolution?
What if we are the landscape in which it's possible in our imaginations, or there's multiple dimensions? Let's co-create the dimension where that happens here. That's like the level I'm like, that's where I am right now. That's the level that I'm at right now.
I like that. Because I think that you could, you could sit with your suffering, or you can, you know, find healing. And in that I do believe that if you could find healing for yourself, or at least manage that suffering, you can do it for other people as well. You know, and I think that's what we're doing on this earth is turning our pain into a passion for self-healing, for, you know, for self-healing and to be of service to other people, because I even think for myself, like when I'm in pain when I'm suffering, I almost always feel so much better if I can share that with other people. And if I can help people who can relate to that story.
Absolutely, absolutely. What are you alchemizing? Either, like, what's one that you feel really strong about? That you can be like, this was one pain that I that really showed me a thing, or what is getting alchemized. When I say alchemy, I mean, like a turning point of pain into a passion, right? Like, what's that pathway for you? If understanding for me understand that there are many pathways and they're not right or wrong, right?
But I'm looking at like, just like the ecstasy pathway, then we could just, like, have more arrows and ecstasy and kindness and like, amazing nourishment. And that would like, blow our minds and change our lives. Like it does. Like, we know that, you know, it's like, we've all that's not true. I am so blessed. I have had meals that have changed my life, nourishing food, that's like, every bite is like, my concept of what reality was, was no longer the same afterwards, you know? And, and that changed me, right. And so there's like that thing.
So knowing that there's many pathways and without needing to say, pain is right, and ecstasy is wrong, or ecstasy is right, and pain is wrong. what's what's something that again, either that feels like you're like, this is a great example of like, what I'm talking about, or what's alive for you right now. That's in that process of that you're working?
Yeah, I think the the biggest thing for me that I'm working through right now is simply showing up, like showing up like having more of a presence online, to show up in conversations like this completely unprepared, yeah, to just be here with you and speak my truth and share my story in the way that makes most sense in this context. And for me, this is coming from a place where, and my coaches in the past have told me where I felt like I was disappearing.
Jen Amos
And the catalyst for that where I started to feel like I was disappearing goes back to when I was really young when I unexpectedly lost my dad at 10 years old. So he was on he was active duty military, in the Navy. And he was about 18 years in, so he was basically two years away from retiring. When he just went missing. Like he was on a ship, he was on the USS Kitty Hawk. And I think the next day they're taking attendance, they couldn't find him. They sent a search crew for three days. In the I think it's oh my gosh, it says Pacific Ocean.
And, and yeah, they couldn't find him. And I think that really set up my path where, you know, my dad, even though he wasn't around a lot, because he was in the military. And he was gone months at a time. I never felt his absence, I felt his presence when he was around. And I think when I lost him, there was a part of me that felt like, I couldn't get that from, you know, that feeling that love that he gave me from anywhere else. And from then on, I had found myself in a series of abusive relationships in within my family and outside of my family.
I felt like and also with my military child background and moving every two to three years. Once we got settled in San Diego, California, I'm in Virginia Beach right now. But I remember, like, I just didn't care to intentionally make friends anymore. I was just kind of drawn to people who are narcissists where I made them feel good about themselves because I was always supportive. I was always there, I always validated them, you know?
And anyway, fast forward to fast forward to like, you know, really the last five years or so, I realized that not like I realized not valuing myself, wasn't serving me and it wasn't serving the people that I was serving when I was like being in business for myself. And nowadays, I'm on this path to just show up. Like, it sounds so simple, but it's so, it's a bold act for me to just show up. And, you know, something to like, amongst a lot of my peers is that I think a lot of us had felt that we need to be qualified a certain way.
We need to be qualified, we need to be a certain person to show up. And I'm here saying well I'm here anyway, I'm here, whether I'm qualified or not, and it's been an amazing experience. Just doing that. Like just being present, and through that, and sharing my story and connecting with people such as yourself, Sophia to realize that, you know, I have a story that is worth sharing. And I have some wisdom and knowledge and experience that could be of service to other people.
Sophia Wise One
Yeah, showing up is sometimes I really use it as the phrase to like, describe it all, like showing up like it really is that phrase makes a lot of sense to me has a lot of meaning to me, I think is a very is a very powerful, it's a very powerful call. It's really powerful call.
What's the thing? What's like the wisdom that you find yourself? Like, like, always coming back to to sharing with people? Do you know what I mean? I mean, do you have like some things that you like, tend to kind of?
Yeah, I have two things. So it depends on the audience. So if you are a person of faith, I, I like to use, I like to always refer to the Bible verse, Ecclesiastes 3, which is a little poem that talks about how there's a time and place for everything, like there's a time to be happy, there's a time to be sad, there's a time to build, there's a time to destroy, there's a time to love, there's a time to let go.
Jen Amos
That's not verbatim, by the way, I'm just summarizing it. And what I take from that, is that, because there's a time and place for everything, I don't have to know everything, I just have to show up. And the other one for secular for our secular audience would be by Mother Teresa. And this is what helps me reset every day or whenever I feel anxious. And it goes, yesterday has gone tomorrow has not yet come. We only have today, let us begin.
And it just reminds me, you know, with whether it's that Bible verse or that quote, where it's like, this is this is all we have, right now. Right? You know, like, this is really all we have is this moment. And, and I could live this moment, being regretful of what I did yesterday, or in my past, or I could be anxious about the uncertainty of what's to come ahead, given our current interesting times. Or I can focus on this very moment. And do my best to be of service in this moment with, you know, the resources I have, or the people that I'm in front of, etc, or the time that I have to do this.
Sophia Wise One
Yeah, the things that keep us here, right. Like, it reminds me of the like, in one hand, like, the world was made for me, and to hold another hand, from dust, I came into dust, like the dust you came into us, you shall return you know, that like, and they're, they're both true, right?
So like, how is it that I show up knowing that I am the center of my universe, because I am. Like, just turns out, like, you don't have to make yourself do this interview, you just admit that you are the center of your own universe, and you can start to really respect yourself and other people and recognize it, like literally everyone else is also the center of their own universe, that that's just what is happening. And, and so there's like that piece.
And then also to be like, and like, what are we in the, in the blink of everything like that? That, you know, that's it's a different way of what you're talking about. But for me, it does that same thing of just like, in some ways, it's like, I'm, like, huge and powerful, and I'm, like, so tiny and insignificant. And, and when both of those things are true. It's just, it's just this, it's just here. It's just now it's like, it's like, just in this place.
Jen Amos
Yeah, yeah. And I think also acknowledging that there are, there are multiple things that can coexist, like, I could be present, but I can also be feeling my feelings of sadness, or my feeling of anxiety. Rather than saying, I'm not anxious, I'm happy, I'm happy. I'm always happy, you know, like, I'm not gonna, because to me, that is a form of denial. It's saying, Yeah, I'm here. I'm also anxious. I'm also sad, and you know, everything and just being being okay with that.
Sophia Wise One
And is that something that you had to learn? Or is that something that you kind of inherently...

You already know everything I can teach you already know everything I can say we are here to remind you what you already know, you already know
Intro From Sophia Wise One 00:37
I just want to take a minute to acknowledge that vagina talks understands that gender is fluid and dynamic and goes way beyond the binary of either woman or man, she or him. And that, in fact, it's a living an evolving thing that's actually personal person to person. And that our bodies, even our understanding, or the ways that we experience them can vary. It's important for me that that's something that has space here on Vagina Talks. And at the same time, I also am carrying this understanding that womanhood and the experience of the feminine and all of the female, in the splitting of that binary, has been injured has been hurt has been dismantled. And so, I'm looking to have a space where the feminine and the female and the female body is reclaimed and respected and lifted and inspected and known, as well as a space that goes beyond the binary. So, feel free to chime in as we go along. Without further ado, today's episode.
Sophia Wise One 2:13
Hello, beautiful human and welcome back to Vagina Talks. I'm really grateful that you're here with me today. I am a tender, tender mush, I am in the midst of a good cleansing. I'm have an image of a mortar and pestle. And I'm in it. And I really heard myself this morning in my in my grief and in my rage. I could literally hear cliterally, I could cliterally hear a tone that I hadn't heard before. And while I was actually screaming, the thought went through my head. Oh my gosh, this is that opening I was praying for like this is it's happening right now like this is a new tone. This is a new vibration. This is a new experience. So, I'm just in the after washes of this really kind of big opening and a really big surrendering. So I'm just like, that's where I am right now. I'm just like in this tender place. And we have a guest today that I'm really excited to share with you. I came across her I looked at her stuff and I just I just felt this was like this. She's our people. You know, we got to get her get her in here. So I want to bring her in. tell you a little bit about her. Marion Chloé Theis is a French love coach. She helps women have better sex and relationships through spiritual and kinky sex practices. After a lot of bad relationships and unsatisfying sex encounters, she decided to take the matter into her own hands and did the invisible emotional work required to reclaim her power. She gave into her BDSM tendencies and discovered a new way to be in her body. From there, she grew a new sense of confidence that has spread to all areas of life. She now helps other women access their own wisdom so they can feel more connection with themselves and others. Marion welcome.
Marion Chloé Theis 04:25
Hey, thanks for having me.
Sophia Wise One 04:28
So, grateful to have you here today. And, you know, the first question I want to start with is is is playful and sincere and so I invite you to just kind of just kind of check in and see where it goes. If you just check in with your body and you just check in with your vagina. What is it that you would like to share with us?
Marion Chloé Theis 04:52
Well, that's a good question. What's coming up strongly is, in a way of my stories, obviously unique to me, but also speaks to a lot of people because I think there are a lot of people around there, who don't really have a very great relationships or sex. And it's something we tend to ignore, because it's not easy to face. And we don't really know. Like, we don't have like a relationship at school, or like the sex school. Most people didn't go there. Right. So it's not easy to know how to navigate that, like, sex is messy. Relationships are messy, life is messy. And yet, relationship and sex are so intimate and so important. And we're not really given the tools to address that to navigate the challenges. So I think that that's what I want to talk about.
Sophia Wise One 05:54
Great. Let's go, go for it.
Marion Chloé Theis 05:59
Okay, um, do have a prompt to give me something to get them started. .
Sophia Wise One 06:05
Sure, sure. Right, right. I guess so two, two entrance points, right, is either your personal story, right? Of kind of the unsatisfying or satisfying, like, what's happening now and how you got there? Or some tools? So kind of either coming in on that personal friend or coming in on that, that tool place? And I'm curious about both, so
Marion Chloé Theis 06:37
We'll do both then.
Sophia Wise One 06:39
Okay.
Marion Chloé Theis 06:40
Number one, my story. So I think it's like, it's always really hard for me to like, find a starting point. Because, I mean, there's a certain point when visiting enough my life, but like, I'm not going to tell the full story. It would be it would take a long time, I'm going to take a middle point. When I was around 19-20 I was, I was living in Barcelona, I was doing an a student exchange program. And I just like, my life was a mess. And yet so intense, and I learned so many things. So to give you a context, before that, were two long term relationships, my first like kind of official, you know, like, growing up ish relationship. The second one being actually very abusive, as the first one being naturally fulfilling, like, emotionally. So I was like, at this point where, like, I was just this new relationship will hurt me a lot? And like, I'm talking from my point of view, I wasn't a victim that well, you know, abuse was anyway, that's a long story. But like, I'm not saying like, I'm talking about relationships, and I'm gonna be talking about my relationships, I am not putting the blame on the other person, I just want that to be clear,
Sophia Wise One 08:07
Right, like you understand fundamentally, that it's a co-creative experience.
Marion Chloé Theis 08:10
Exactly, like self and sovereignty are really important. And obviously, there are habits that, like abusive relationship being one of them, but like, since I'm gonna be talking about my relationships, I don't want to be rude. But I do accept my risk, and sovereignty in them, you know, because I was, I was a part of them. So, I was just out of this long-term relationship. And I was in Barcelona, single, you know, I'm still on the front end, like, I just started dating around a lot and sleeping around a lot and having lots of fun. And I needed this time to kind of like, put myself back together. And it did help. And it was tremendously helpful in processing everything that had been going on, on my relationship beforehand. But then I also realized that my relationships were not more satisfying. So, like, in one-night stands, something was missing. And I think I realized more and more that there must be more to that, you know, like more than like, some one nightstand or the sex for like, the person who generally is socialized as a man, kind of do their business, and then they're done. And then tire, like, it's like the typical, like, yeah, it's like a kind of mainstream way that I want to say society depicts, you know, what sex is, in a very kind of, you know, penis in the vagina kind of thing. And I was like, “Hm, I'm not like, what about me?” and I was always very like, aware of that, but it was also very, very hard for me to ask for things. Like, in sex, it's meant not asking for what I wanted, not even knowing what I wanted. And in relationships and men in a relationship, it meant, like not actually being able to articulate my own needs, or my boundaries, or being like, actually, I want this kind of relationship with you and these are my boundaries. Like I just didn't have like the tools or like, I just didn't know what it was like a just… I was just thinking that having needs in general and feeling was like a bad thing. And if I wanted to be loved, I had to pretend to be really strong.
Sophia Wise One 10:44
Classic, yeah!
Marion Chloé Theis 10:48
Yeah and I think a lot of people, especially people who have been raised as women tend to have that of like, you have to be strong, but also not too much. Or you have to, like, you know, all the injunctions all the, you know, social standards. And obviously, not like you have to put someone else's needs before yours.
Sophia Wise One 11:18
Oooooooh.
Marion Chloé Theis 11:18
Is it touching a chord here?
Sophia Wise One 11:19
Yeah. And also, just a theme I just think so many people know that feeling. You know its definitely part of my feeling, for sure. It’s a story, a piece, of a lot of people’s. It's one of those things, that If it worked, it would work. It turns out that is doesn’t work, it it does not work the way I was lead to to believe it would work.
Marion Chloé Theis 11:48
Yeah. And I think, I don't know, I mean, I've I do know, like I have been able to like kind of look back into like, okay, so I'm having like, unsatisfying sex, obviously, I'm not getting anything like or everything I want a relationship, like, what's the problem? So, like, I looked back at, like, the common, you know, component, which would just mean actually, like, Well, you know, out of 10 crappy relationship and the, and the, you know, the one denominator. Yeah, yeah, constant. It's like, Hmm, maybe there is something about to me, maybe the other person is just not, you know, the one to blame. So, I started looking back and did a lot of, you know, work around beliefs I had on myself, or, like, you know, feeling guilty and feeling like, you know, just like I said, I had to put my, my needs last, I had to pretend they didn't have needs, I had to be like, perfect, I had to be strong showing feelings was like, not good. And then, like, I kind of went to the root of that, you know, like, originated, like, in childhood, you know, like everyone else, we all have, like, daddy and mommy issues or parents issues. Like, you know, and like, kind of doing this work of like going a bit, deeper and deeper, and like peeling back the layers. And actually focusing afterwards on like, loving myself and giving myself what I wanted. So like, that's a long story short, you know, obviously, lots of ups and downs happen in between that.
Marion Chloé Theis 13:25
But for the sake of the story, yeah. And I think I so in between these. So long term relationship, and my newest relationships I am in, so it started, like, a year ago. I remained single for like, seven years. And I was dating, you know, I had, like, casual hookups. I had whatever I wanted, you know, like, when I wanted more or less, as in more or less, um, but like, I wasn't, I wasn't seeing anyone long term. And I wanted to, and I got really frustrated and I got really angry. And I think it brought by like, a lot of feelings or, like, no worthiness. And am I ever gonna be able to meet you know, someone that I love that loves me back, you know, who has the same, you know, life visons that I do, who want the same thing the same kind of relationship and like, it just felt like fuck, you know? It was hard. It was really hard. And day after day, I just vowed to just showing up for myself, whatever that meant. And sometimes it would mean like yeah, maybe just crying and watching Netflix and being miserable and throwing myself a pity party because I needed to feel my feelings and some other days meant. Well, actually going on a dating app and actually, like going on dates to meet new people, right because I wanted to find like the one person I don't I don't see actually believe this concept but more because if I want to date and they need to date, you know, and right, like, doing things in a different way, and also knowing that, like, someone was out there that was going to happen.
Marion Chloé Theis 15:19
But meanwhile, you know, like, being really happy with myself and making space in my life for this to happen for us and for sex, you know, for good sex searching was myself, so like, having good sex with myself, and having dates with myself. And I knew that the first time I heard about that felt like, like, a bit weird, like, kind of picturing a 40-50 years old. Like person, like being alone in a restaurant, like actually I had of a lot of fun eating alone in the restaurant because, like, I don't have to share my meal. I don't have to talk while I'm eating. You know, like, it's a lot of things like, trying different experiences, and, and really focusing on myself and, and being okay with myself and, and loving myself and, you know, in small and big ways, and we can, you know, go more into detail, you know, on that afterwards. But yeah, in a nutshell, that's it. And then, about a year ago, more than a year ago, after like, yet another kind of relationship that didn't work out. And I just, I was just like so pissed, I just, I was just pacing in my room, I was in Bali at the time, I was just, I was just pacing back and forth. And I was just like, angry and like talking to the universe and crying and, and kind of getting all my feelings out and then I ended up.
Marion Chloé Theis 16:49
Like, just giving myself a pep talk. And I taught I remember, I told myself like, yeah, I'm gonna meet someone, you know, who, I am attracted to who I feel on the same page, you know, emotionally as well, you know, like, kind of detailing all of that and then adding like, Oh, yeah, and someone was into kink as in, like, BDSM sex because it had been someone, I've always kind of been attracted to, for as long as I remember. Like, from like puberty, but like, I never really kind of, like, took the leap. But I realized, like, I had been realizing, you know, doing all of this work and like figuring out what I liked and sex and relationship and everything. That this was, it was really, really important to me. And I didn't really know like how it could happen, because like, I wasn't hanging out in like, kink communities, because it felt really scary, still, a lot of that. But like, anyway, I just finished my pep talk with kind of all these criteria and the final things was like someone was into kink? like kind of all these criteria and added like city fathers went off like and someone was looking. And like I kid you not three days later I met my current partner in the alley, just like in the most random and magical way ever, I just sat next to him in a restaurant. And that is it and we just started chatting. And then the next day I went on a date and they didn't think it was a date. Turns out it was a date.
Marion Chloé Theis 18:20
And then he offered to tie me up as in like doing some shibari. So, I don't know if you're familiar with Chavez, some ancient Japanese bondage arts. And now it's kind of been used and reclaimed in the erotic. Like context and BDSM communities. And he had just gotten back from Japan from doing like a course on that. And we're just talking about BDSM, and, you know, like asking me like what I do. And I went like well, not a lot because you know, there's a...
