"My name is Vaishnavi Sundar,
I'm a 37 year old woman living in the south of India.
I write, and I make films in the form of occupation, but I have dedicated myself to full-time activism for the past many years.
Having been brought up in a super traditional/strict house, I was introduced to liberal feminism during my rebel stages. To be so suppressed of all forms of expression and thoughts, I went full speed ahead by completely submerging myself into liberal feminist ideology.
To be fair, at that time, I didn’t know whether feminism of any other kind existed. I thought I found my tribe with women who taught me about the need for taking down patriarchy. But it is only in retrospect that I realized these women were decorating themselves with ornamental shackles, rather than breaking free from it so patriarchy COULD indeed be toppled.
While I too was merrily chanting libfem slogans, two things kept bothering me: the libfem diktat to call pornography and prostitution a matter of “choice!” Though nobody seemed to have any critical thoughts on whether this form of sexual slavery should indeed be glorified as “work,” and of course nobody was willing to provide me with an acceptable answer. I started isolating myself from these groups online, trying to find resources to better understand porn and prostitution from a critical vantage point."
