Valiant Central

You know what happens on Fridays? A new episode of the Valiant Central Podcast is what!

Be forewarned – Paul and I return to a solo episode of the podcast with a pain killer and liquor infused discussion that is not to be missed! We talk a little bit about our move to All-Comic, discuss Valiant sales numbers for May 2015, and a bit on the September solicitations. As we get into a discussion of X-O Manowar and Dead Drop, we look at some of what Marvel and DC are doing with their characters and discuss whether long-running characters should simply be allowed to die and replaced or if their stories should just keep getting rehashed to appease the fans.

As part of our discussion, we mentioned this terrific piece, Market Maven – Is the Wicked and the Divine in Trouble?, by Kieron Gillen.

Now that the July 2015 solicitations are out, we spend a little bit of time discussing what we like and don’t like as much with special guest, Joshua Eves, from the Valiant Effort podcast. Not enough for you? Ok there’s more…

We spend the rest of the show discussing the Book of Death: Legends of the Geomancer, a new retailer exclusive book which has some fans highly upset due to the fact that the only way to read the story is to have a retailer order enough copies of a Book of Death book. Is it fair to fans, or only to retailers? Does it really matter? Listen and find out!

Be sure to check out Josh’s show, find him on Twitter @iwantvaliant, and with Paul and I on our classic Valiant show, Ivar’s Longbox!

We also discuss a few listener questions including one of our favorite questions of all time: “Cast the Harbinger movie, using only individuals who are currently members of Valiant podcasts.” Serious? Yup!

Another week is in the can which means it’s time to get ready for the weekend with a fresh episode of the Valiant Central Podcast! This week, Paul and Martin are joined by Ross Kearney, co-owner of Coast City Comics in Portland, Maine to get a fresh perspective of the industry from the retailer’s side. Ross also works at ComicLink, an online auction house dealing with high-end comic books. We discuss some of the recent resurgence of interest in the classic Valiant titles, the speculator market, and how it’s all affecting the market for current titles. We also discuss the role of digital books and variant covers and their effect on the traditional comic book shop.
