As we consider the coming of the King of Glory this Advent and Christmas season, we need to consider the importance of seeing Him as the King of Promise, the King of Prophecy. Only the King of Glory writes the history of the world, knows our past and our future. It is Jesus that holds the future in His hands. Understanding this profound truth in His plan for salvation forms the foundation of our hope and confidence. As Christians, knowing the future is in the control and under the authority of the King of Promise is called our Blessed Hope. It assures us, motivates us and calls us into all that Jesus has for us.

King of the Nations

It is a high calling to represent Jesus Christ as a peacemaker. What greater vision can there be but to bring the peace of Christ to a world so desperately seeking peace? At the same time, it is easy to let our eagerness for His call to overrule the importance of working out the peace of Christ in our own lives.

When Moses asked to see God face-to-face, God warned him that no one can see God and live. The glory of God, the holiness of God, the purity of God is beyond the capability of man to take in. Yet, Jesus promises His disciples that they will see God. But there is a condition for taking in the presence of God: There needs to be a purity of heart.

Hebrews 1:1-4

The Beatitudes are a masterful presentation of paradoxes that reveal significant truths regarding God's Kingdom. For Example, those who are poor in spirit will inherit the kingdom, those who mourn will be comforted and, in today's passage, those who are meek shall inherit the earth. This beatitude stands in stark contrast to a world where the world belongs to the rich, the powerful, the privileged. So it is with the kingdom of God - it stands in contrast to the world's wisdom.
