VampCast: Reviewing vampires in books, movies, TV shows, and more!

In this episode of VampCast, host Andrea Christine pivots from her planned review of AMC’s Interview with the Vampire to unearth The Vampire Maid (1890) by Hume Nisbet—a pulpy, pre-Dracula short story that’s brief, atmospheric, and creepy.

You’ll get a recap and review of the tale of an unnamed artist who becomes bewitched by Ariadne, a sickly yet seductive young woman he meets at a remote seaside cottage.

Welcome back to VampCast! In this episode, host Andrea Christine sinks her teeth into The Lost Boys (1987), Joel Schumacher’s gloriously campy horror-comedy set in the not-so-sleepy, vampire-infested beach town of Santa Carla.

You’ll get a recap of the story (spoilers abound, but one major twist stays under wraps), a look at the film’s mix of laughs and scares, and a breakdown of its vampire lore.

Then your host runs through the VampCast categories: Best Character, Best Line, Eeriest Moment, Best Track from the Soundtrack, and Best Bite before giving the film a rating on the one-to-five-bat scale.

Welcome to the very first episode of VampCast! Host Andrea Christine sinks her teeth into Bram Stoker’s 1897 classic, Dracula, the enduring gothic horror tale that has had a major influence on the vampire stories that followed.

First, you'll get a recap of the epistolary thrill ride from Jonathan Harker’s ominous trip to Transylvania, the doomed voyage of the ship the Count takes to England, Lucy Westenra's s tragic transformation, Mina Harker's courage, and our heroes' final pursuit back to Castle Dracula. Spoilers abound!

Then your host breaks down the vampires’ strengths and weaknesses, highlights the book’s eeriest imagery and most chilling “Best Bite,” and picks her “Best Character” before rating Dracula on a scale of one to five bats.
