"A very valuable addition to our knowledge of the Pacific Basin...I found myself looking forward to reading the next chapter almost as if it were a good story book - as indeed it is." (Journal of Pacific History)
"This delightful book examines the nature of vanished and vanishing islands of the vast Pacific Ocean...This is truly a fine, engaging read...Highly recommended." (Choice)

The Hidden Pacific revealed....
This is a timely book on the world's largest ocean that arguably remains one of the least known areas on the planet.
Greater understanding and insights are gained on a range of topics, most of which are of considerable importance today. Anyone keen to know more about climate change and the geo-sciences as they apply to the Pacific, and indeed to all areas, will find much to engage with in this 269 page book.
There are intriguing passages devoted to refuting some of the lunatic fringe theories by Madame Blavatsky et al, on sunken continents and their inhabitants.
Impeccably researched and well-written, Nunn's book deserves to be in every public library. It will be a valuable resource for academics and students, as well as holding the interest of a wide general reading public.
Misleading
Most people would buy this book with a view to reading about the more interesting examples of geological anomalies. What this book is however is a thinly veiled attempt at reducing anything that might be interesting to "nothing to see here, just science as usual". In general of course, this is perfectly reasonable, because science, done well, often removes myths, however the writer of this book, while certainly using good science, seems to me to be avoiding the more difficult questions. I am reminded of Egyptologists who insist the Great Pyramid was built by people using copper saws and only 100,000 men in 20 years. It falls short of the mark in what it is advertised as. The science is good though although the writing is pretty dry. My main sense was as if I was reading a debunking exercise on UFOs or something. I am sure there is no real cover-up by the way, it's just the writer's style that I found stifling.
