Former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback and longtime NFL coach Darrell Bevell joins The Jump Around to reflect on Wisconsin football’s rise under Barry Alvarez, the program’s Rose Bowl legacy and what he sees in the current Badgers.

Bevell was part of the Wisconsin team that went from five wins to 10 wins and captured the program’s first Rose Bowl championship. He shares what made Alvarez such a special coach, how the Badgers developed their tough, blue-collar identity and why those lessons have stayed with him throughout his coaching career.

Now the associate head coach and offensive specialist for the Carolina Panthers, Bevell also discusses the evolution of quarterback play, drawing on his experience coaching NFL stars Brett Favre and Russell Wilson. He explains how coaches can balance a quarterback’s aggressive instincts with making smart decisions — a particularly relevant topic for Wisconsin quarterback Colton Joseph.

Wisconsin comes up short against the top-ranked team in the country, falling on the road in three sets. Wisconsin entered today at 11-4 overall with a perfect 5-0 record in Big Ten play after taking down #24 Illinois on the road Thursday night. Now Wisconsin heads out to Lincoln to face the #1 Nebraska Cornhuskers for the only time this regular season.

It’s another disappointing loss to the rival Cornhuskers, as Wisconsin still seeks to close the gap against the Big Ten heavyweight.
