“Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.” The second half of James 5:13 encourages us to worship God through song. Yet, we often grumble about the selection, style or tempo of worship music. In today’s lesson, Tim shows how complaints over praise songs are nothing new. In doing so, he encourages us to focus on God and others as we sing — understanding a song we dislike may be speaking to the heart of our brothers and sisters.
How’s the fishin’? If you find yourself with empty stringers, it may be time to try a different strategy. Think like a fish. Go where they’re biting. And, make sure you’re casting for the kind of fish you're most likely to catch. These are some of the lessons Tim shared in today’s sermon as Vaughn Park Church embarks on a journey to Pray, Go and Invite.
What are you concerned about? What are you angry about? Do you have the right to be angry? As Tim concludes our study of Jonah, he asks the questions God asked the prophet in chapter 4. How we answer these questions may help us discover whether we have the key ingredient to build a strong bridge.
Do you get angry at people? Look again. Do you have enemies? Look again. Do you sometimes want sinners to get what’s coming to them? Look again! In today’s sermon from Jonah, Tim challenges us to take another look ... with the compassion of God.
Are you in a pit? A valley? The stomach of a smelly fish? What is there to do when you’re sinking? In today’s lesson, Tim helps us discover the answer in Jonah Chapter 2. When Jonah turned from God’s direction and felt alone, he prayed and remembered the Lord’s sovereignty and provision. How about us? Are we praying, and have we implanted his word in our hearts so, when tough times come, we remember?
Are you lugging a load that’s leading you off course from God’s mission? Perhaps stubbornness is the cargo which is creating calamity. In today’s lesson from Jonah, Tim invites us to surrender. Rather than fighting the waves and wind, we can cast our burdens overboard and catch the current of the Lord’s itinerary.
Have you ever run from God? Have you fled from His mission for your life? As we continue our series in Jonah, Tim explores how we can change God’s “Operation Go” into “Operation No.”
