Fast forward to 2025, when even the idea of gender is a hot-button topic, and Snow White could be the poster child for moribund gender stereotypes. She's the traditional feminine, a delicate princess who happens to be the fairest of them all; she's kind and submissive, a domesticated girl who cooks and cleans up for men and dreams of living happily ever with a handsome, rich prince. But do fairy tales also teach girls that physical beauty and passivity make them desirable? It's a message Rachel Zegler, the young actress reviving the Snow White role, openly disdains. Unlike a demure Snow White, Rachel demonstratively expressed her feelings to the world while derailing the movie's box office success. So, tradition or woke, what side of the dilemma are you on?
