Today guest is Dr Gemma Newman. She has worked in medicine for 15 years and is the Senior Partner at a family medical practice. Dr Newman has worked in many specialities including elderly care, endocrinology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, general surgery, urology, vascular surgery, rehabilitation medicine and General Practice. She has a specialist interest in plant based nutrition and lifestyle medicine, is an advisory board member of Plant Based Health Professionals UK and part of the Doctors for Nutrition Team.
She gives nutrition and lifestyle advice to her patients, who have gained tremendous results using the power of their plate. Her family lead a fully plant based lifestyle, following the extensive research she had done of the scientific literature on the health benefits associated with whole-food plant based nutrition.
In this episode, Gemma shares her journey to veganism, what inspired her to make the change and what her and her family eat. She talks about climate change and the urgency of planetary health. We go into the main vitamins and minerals that we need to focus on incorporating into our diet, how to have a healthy pregnancy, and how to raise healthy plantbased children. We also go into breastfeeding.
