  • #26 VENT Daily: Anxiety

This week, we’re putting out an episode every single day. Five conversations, all about mental health. And our hosts are choosing what to talk about. Today, Suprina wants to talk about Anxiety. We speak to PHD candidate in neuroscience Michael Papasavva and radio producer Jack Howson about their personal experiences with anxiety, and we discuss how you can tell the difference between every day anxious feelings and a possible anxiety disorder.

This episode was produced by the VENT production team: Jess Lawson, Emilia Gill, Moeed Majeed and Arlie Adlington.

  • #25 'The conversations we're having will matter in the future'
This week, we're serving you a history lesson. Santos and Surpina discuss the life of British Black Panther, Olive Morris, and the importance of archives with LSE graduate and Podcaster Oumou Longley and Archive Volunteer Michael Appouh. What can history teach us about the present, and what happens when the history we learn leaves us out?

  • #24 Bonus: Covid-19 Fact Checkers #2 The Virus Does Discriminate

People from Black and Asian ethnic minority backgrounds are being hit the hardest by Covid-19 and it’s got Suprina and Amelia asking some important questions. Why are their communities losing more lives to the pandemic and what can be done about it?

Part of our new Covid-19 Fact Checkers mini-series which aims to answer your questions and anxieties around Covid-19. This episode, Amelia is joined by co-host Suprina Thapa, Science Journalist, Layal Liverpool and Epidemiologist Prof. Nishi Chaturvedi.

  • #23 'They're supposed to be on your side'

Amelia's a feminist, but sometimes she feels like there’s a separation between the fact she's a woman and the fact she's black - she doesn't always feel ‘seen’ in feminist spaces that are mainly full of white women. This week, we've invited scholar and activist Dr Stephanie Davis and VICE Executive Editor Zing Tsjeng to talk about the term related to Amelia's feeling: intersectionality.

  • #20 'Oh my God this is the connection I've been waiting for'
As it turns out, recording a podcast isn't the only thing you can do remotely in a Covid-19 lockdown. This episode, we're talking about getting lit - quarantine style. We speak to Club Quarantine co-founder, Brad Allen and VICE Researcher Tir Dhondy about online parties and virtual raving.

  • #19 'Swimming isn't made for us'

Ok so obviously we can't go swimming right now (thanks a lot Covid-19), but we've recorded an amazing conversation on the topic anyway. We got to speak to two ex-competitive swimmers, Seren Jones and Sharna Piercy, about the barriers that stop many black women from getting involved in the sport. Seren is also a BBC journalist and her radio documentary 'Black girls don't swim' went out on the World Service last year - you can listen to it here.

We're still in isolation, and VENT Weekly host Nuradean has been playing a LOT of Fortnite recently. We invited VICE Associate Editor Ryan Bassil, and Brent-based avid gamer Kyle Edwards into our virtual studio to discuss when gaming is a healthy pastime, and when it becomes an addiction.

  • #17 'I tried to achieve my way out of stuff'

We're in self isolation baby! The world is feeling hard to deal with right now, and most of us are feeling more anxious than normal. So we thought this would be a good time to talk about mental health. We video-chat with comedian and BBC Journalist Jordan Dunbar and a fellow Brent resident of ours, Andre Sylvester, about our own experiences of therapy, and the state of the therapy industry in the UK.
