  • VSC Reading Series: Rebecca Brown 4/23/2012
    Rebecca Brown is the author of ten books, including The Last Time I Saw You, The End of Youth, and Excerpts from a Family Medical Dictionary. Her work has been translated into Japanese, German, Danish and Norwegian and widely anthologized. She is Creative Director of Literature at Centrum in Port Townsend, Washington, and teaches in the MFA program at Goddard College in Vermont. She lives in Seattle.

  • VSC Reading Series: Dara Wier 8/25/2013
    Born in Louisiana, Wier is the author of numerous collections of poetry, including: Selected Poems, Remnants of Hannah, Reverse Rapture, which received the 2006 SFSU Poetry Center Book Award, Hat On a Pond, Voyages in English, Our Master Plan, which received a Phi Beta Kappa Award Finalist Citation, Blue for the Plough, The Book of Knowledge, All You Have in Common, The 8-Step Grapevine, and Blood, Hook & Eye. You Good Thing is forthcoming in April 2013. Her awards include fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council, is a recipient of the Jerome J. Shestack Prize from the American Poetry Review. Wier is a former Director and on the permanent faculty of the MFA program for Poets and Writers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst . She co-founded and co-directs the Juniper Initiative for Literary Arts and Action and the annual Juniper Summer Writing Institute. She is a member of the arts and literary community center Flying Object in Hadley, Massachusetts. Recent poems can be found in The Nation, jubilat, not nostrums, Conduit, Make, American Poetry Review, skein, Fou, Maggy, Boston Review, Green Mountain Review, Salt River Review. With Emily Pettit and Guy Pettit she publishes and edits chapbooks, books and broadsides for Factory Hollow Press.

  • VSC Reading Series: Adam Davis And Fanny Howe 7/11/2013
    Adam Davis was the recipient of the 2013 Kay Evans Fellowship at VSC.
    Fanny Howe has written numerous books of poetry including Gone, (University of California Press, 2003), Selected Poems (UC Press, 2000), On the Ground (Graywolf Press, 2004), and The Lyrics (Graywolf, 2007). She has also written novels, five of them collected in one volume called Radical Love. At seventeen Howe left her home in Boston for California and has since spent her life there and in England, Ireland, and Massachusetts. In recent years she has won the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize, a fellowship from the Guggenheim Foundation, and an award from the Academy of Arts and Letters. She has written two collections of essays, The Wedding Dress (UC Press, 2003) and The Winter Sun (Graywolf, 2009). Howe has three grown children and six little grandchildren; she currently lives on Martha’s Vineyard.

    Stephen Dunn is the author of sixteen collections of poetry, including Here and Now, which will be published by Norton in May, 2011. His Different Hours was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2001. Among his many other awards are The Paterson Prize for Sustained Literary Achievement, an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts & Letters, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. He is Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, but spends most of his time these days in Frostburg, Maryland, with his wife, the writer Barbara Hurd.

  • VSC Reading Series: Srikanth Reddy 6/14/2011
    Srikanth Reddy grew up in Chicago. He is the author of two books of poetry, Facts for Visitors and Voyager, both published by the University of California Press. A scholarly study, Changing Subjects: Digressions in Modern American Poetry, is forthcoming from Oxford University Press. Reddy earned an MFA in creative writing from the University of Iowa and a PhD in English Literature from Harvard University, and he has received fellowships from the Whiting Foundation, the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, and the Mellon Foundation. Hi is currently an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Chicago.

  • VSC Reading Series: Michael Steinberg 10/28/2010
    Michael Steinberg is founding editor of the literary journal, Fourth Genre: Explorations in Nonfiction. His most recent books include Still Pitching, winner of the 2003 Foreword Magazine /Independent Press Memoir of the Year; Peninsula: Essays and Memoirs From Michigan (2001); The Fourth Genre: Contemporary Writers of/on Creative Nonfiction (currently in its fifth edition); and Those Who Do, Can: Teachers Writing, Writers Teaching (1997)--the latter two with Robert Root Jr. His shorter works have appeared in many literary journals and anthologies. In addition, Steinberg has been a guest writer at many colleges and universities, as well as at several national and international writers’ conferences--including the Prague Summer Program, the Paris Writers’ Conference, The Kachemak Bay/Alaska Writers’ Conference, and the Geneva Writers’ Conference, among others. He's writer-in-residence at the Solstice/Pine Manor College low-residency MFA program in Boston. He and his wife Carole, a visual artist, divide their time between Lansing and Northport, Michigan.

    Noy Holland’s collections of short fiction and novellas include Swim for the Little One First (FC2),What Begins with Bird (FC2), and The Spectacle of the Body (Knopf.) She has published work in Conjunctions, The Quarterly, Ploughshares, Milan Review, Western Humanities Review, The Believer, NOON, New York Tyrant, and Post Road, among others. She was a recipient of a Massachusetts Cultural Council award for artistic merit and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. She has taught for many years in the MFA Program for Poets and Writers at the University of Massachusetts, as well as at Phillips Andover and the University of Florida. She serves on the board of directors at FC2.

    Evie Shockley is the author of two poetry collections, the new black (Wesleyan University Press, 2011) and a half-red sea (Carolina Wren Press, 2006), and two chapbooks, 31 words * prose poems (2007) and The Gorgon Goddess (2001). Also a scholar, she has written a critical study entitled Renegade Poetics: Black Aesthetics and Formal Innovation in African American Poetry (forthcoming, University of Iowa Press). Since 2007, she has co-edited the journal jubilat. Shockley teaches African American literature and creative writing (poetry) at Rutgers University, New Brunswick.
