Chuchak takes in Ranjha’s beauty, and prpbably suspecting that he might have designs on his daughter, tries to dismiss him. Laughingly he says that the lad looks delicate and questions if he can be a herder, and he also emphasizes that Ranjha is a stranger, implying that he is not to be trusted. Heer responds with a torrent of praise for the lad, protesting that he is clever, diligent and virtuous and has a calm demeanor, which tells her that he will tend to their cattle gently, without ever abusing them. Waxing eloquent, she points to his glowing face and declares that he surely must be deeply attached to God!
