Vertical Church / Iglesia Vertical

What does it look like to hold tightly to faith when the cost is everything? In this message, we explore the letter Jesus personally dictated to the church in Smyrna, a community of believers who refused to compromise even under the threat of imprisonment and death. The central scripture, Revelation 2:8-11, reveals a Jesus who does not promise an escape from suffering but instead says 'I see you, I know your afflictions, and I am with you.' The striking paradox at the heart of this letter is that Smyrna was materially poor yet spiritually rich, crushed by persecution yet overflowing with faithfulness. We are challenged to ask ourselves whether our own faith runs deep enough to sustain us when comfort is stripped away. The message draws on James 1:2-4, where we are called to consider trials as pure joy because the testing of faith produces perseverance and ultimately spiritual maturity. This is not easy to receive, but it is honest, and it is the word. The road to becoming more like Christ is paved not with ease but with endurance.
