Very Unreasonable Things

Friday the 13th Part 2

We're back to talk about the next installment in our slashers icon project.  This episode we cover Friday the 13th Part 2.  Friday the 13th Part 2 is an iconic series and in this first sequel we are introduced to an adult Jason Voorhees, one of the most recognizable horror icons of all time.  We here to discuss how Part 2 improves on the original and how in this case the series benefitted from key figures from the original stepping back and not having involvement.  We also try to figure out why Paul kept coming back when it was very obvious Jenny was no good for him.  Come join us as we discuss all this and more on this episode of Very Unreasonable Things.

On this episode of Very Unreasonable Things Josh and Billy begin their Cannon quest.  They're going to be revisiting movies from Cannon's glory years, the 80's.  In this first entry into the Loose Cannons(cheesy I know, it's Cannon so what did you expect) block they are joined by one of Josh's friends, Rhys.  The first movie discussed?  The Barbarians from 1987, starring none other than The Barbarian Twins.  Two children kidnapped from their caravan and forced to grow up as gladiators slash bodybuilders one day escape from their captors and embark on an epic quest.  Is this would be Conan killer the next step in fantasy cinema or was it just another misstep in Cannon's history?  Join us as we discuss The Barbarians and try to decide of Kadar was really that bad of a guy.

Billy and Daniel are re-visiting the creature feature on this episode of Very Unreasonable Things.  Instead of giant bugs they will be taking on the gill-man, the amphibious monster from the 1954 classic "Creature From the Black Lagoon".  The story involves rock star scientist discovering a fossil of an undiscovered lifeform and following the trail of breadcrumbs that lead them to the Black Lagoon (insert your own ominous music here).  As tensions rise amongst the group about scientific responsibilities or the opportunity for a cash grab the gill-man becomes enamored with Kay Lawrence.  What does Taco Bell have to do with all of this?  You'll have to listen to find out.  Join us as we discuss "Creature From the Black Lagoon" from 1954.

Do you like b-movies?  Do you like superheros?  Do you like gore?  Do you like toxic waste?  But most importantly do you like Troma?  If so then you are in luck because we are talking about The Toxic Avenger.  The heart warming story of Melvin.  Resident of the upstanding town of Tromaville and custodian at the Troma Health Club.  Melvin is a weakling, nerd, and sometimes a gawker but underneath all of that he is a superhero.  It just takes a little bit of a toxic waste bath to unleash Melvin's inner hero.  Nothing can stop the newly formed "Toxic Avenger's" need to fight crime and kill bad guys in the most graphic way possible.  Come join us as we talk about this cult classic that teaches us not all radioactive material is bad and sometimes it can give us superpowers and a suave new voice.

HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP!  On this episode we discuss one of the more pressing questions in life, what happens when fish men try to mate with human women and kill all the human men.  The answer is obviously to blame it on your neighbors down the river and blow up their home and try to kill them instead.  Billy and Josh are discussing the B movie classic Humanoids from the Deep.  Produced by Roger Corman and distributed by his New World Pictures company this movie has it all.  Evil canning companies?  Yes.  Fishing boats? You got it.  Scientist mutating salmon? Most definitely.  Plus all the b movie horror staples including monsters, gore, naked bodies, gore, naked bodies, and little plot or story. Directed by Barbara Peeters and starring Dough McClure, Ann Turkel and Vic Morrow.  Join us and listen to this episode of Very Unreasonable Things.

We did it! We made it to year two of our little podcast.  Thank you to everyone has been listening so far.  After a few setbacks and delays to start this second year of Very Unreasonable Things we are back to continue our trip into the big four of slasher/horror icons.  We are discussing Friday the 13th (1980) this episode.  We all know what this franchise gave us in terms of memorable movie villain and sfx but does this first entry into the franchise deserve that much credit or is looked at with rose colored glasses because of what came after?  Did Sean Cunningham and Victor Miller have any idea of what they were creating or did they merely benefit from the popularity of horror at the time and the creative ideas of others going forward?  Join us as we tackle this topic on this episode of Very Unreasonable Things.

Here we are one year into the podcast and we are doing a redo for our last episode of our first year!  As a part of this little project we're doing we will end up doing a couple of movies again but this time with Daniel.  One year already in the books.  We didn't quite reach our goal of an episode every two weeks but two episodes a month isn't bad for a bunch of amateurs.  In this episode we revisit the 1978 classic Halloween.  We cover the important topics like Mrs. Myers' apparent lack of surprise that her son is a killer, Dr. Loomis hanging out in the bushes, how Annie Brackett took over the middle of the movie, Kurt Russell, school lunches, microwaving a frozen pizza and MORE Kurt Russell.  Come check out the episode and thank you for listening, we hope you enjoy.

Billy and Josh wanted to record some extra content so they had the idea to do a watchalong.  Josh was visiting from Sweden and we tried to take advantage of this opportunity to do something different.  Let me preface this by saying we are nothing if but amateurs.  This was a fun experiment and we learned a lot and we think we can do this better going forward.  Unfortunately this is our first attempt at this sort of thing and there were some hiccups.  There will be some gaps, of course if you are watching along they won't matter as much and then there is our biggest snafu but I think I'll leave that as a surprise.  Hopefully you enjoy the content and we look forward to doing this again but better.  Thanks for listening.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.  On this Christmas day episode drop Billy and Josh are back to discuss a very much non Christmas movie in the very brutal Green Room.  Released in 2015.  Starring Anton Yelchin and Patrick Stewart in a role that was definitely a shock at the time, Darcy the ruthless club owner who finds himself at odds with the Ain't Rights.  Directed by Jeremy Saulnier, director of Blue Ruin, Green Room tells the story of a punk band who find themselves attacked after witnessing a murder in a club in the Pacific Northwest.  What do the guys think about this relatively new entry into the horror genre?  Why did it take so long for Josh to watch this movie?  Take a listen and find out the answer to these questions and more.
