A visible difference through sport’

The work of the charity enables blind and partially sighted people to have the same opportunities as sighted people to access and enjoy sport and recreational activities in the UK.

Sport and recreational activities can enhance the lives of people with visual impairments, by improving their health and increasing their social interaction. We encourage adults and children to participate in activities at all levels, from grassroots to the Paralympic Games.

We've been asked to run our Countdown to Sight Village #C2SV for the fourth year running and it was a pleasure to speak to Karen Easthope who coordinates these events at QAC. There are some new exhibitors for 2017 and we're hoping to interview more than ever. Sight Village Birmingham is taking place on July 18th and 19th this year but if you can't make it, enjoy our countdown and see what charities,organisations and businesses are out there providing services and support to blind and partially sighted people.

ADI Access had one 10,000 loan from a start-up finance company and Helen received a £4,000 grant during the School for Social Entrepreneurs programme that I completed in 2015. We operate on the Social Enterprise model and do not take a salary for ourselves, we will ultimately, in the not foreseeable future, pay ourselves back the substantial savings that although we have personally invested in the development, manufacture and marketing of RoomMate. All of our income from the sales of RoomMate goes right back into the business so that we can continue to make improvements and manufacture more units. Most SME's fail within the first 2 years of trading, but here we are almost 3 years in and getting more well-known all the time.
