The power of the Christian life comes from the spirit, through the soul, expressed in the body. Surrendering our lives to Jesus doesn’t mean we become perfect overnight and will never struggle with sin. Our best life comes from refusing to conform to the ways of this world, refusing to give in to the temptations of sin and renewing our minds to God’s way of seeing things.

Jesus came that we would be Made Whole – body, soul and spirit. Our spirit is renewed when we surrender to Jesus, and it becomes united to His Spirit. Our soul is continually renewed as we yield to our spirit rather than temptations. Our body connects us to this world where we are to exercise the authority God has given us – it too will one day be renewed!

Too often we fall for the trap that we need to be better or do more to be considered holy, but it is not something we earn by willpower or specific actions. Holiness is the by-product of our relationship with Christ. It is the result of our yielding our control to Him and allowing Him to work through us.

God does not require us to do anything, any works, to earn our righteousness or holiness. We receive that only through faith! But our faith is a faith of action not just of words. Through our good works, we show love to God and others and put His glory on display for all the world.

We are God’s image bearers, but we cannot fully reflect His image without being in partnership with Him and with others. In relationships that remain Face to Face, a space is created for God to reveal Himself to us, and through us, in unique ways.
