TODAY’S GUEST:
Dr. Michael Klaper, is a gifted clinician, internationally recognized teacher, and sought-after speaker on diet and health. He has practiced medicine for more than 40 years and is a leading educator in applied plant-based nutrition and integrative medicine. Dr. Klaper is also the author of a successful book on cholesterol-free nutrition and an upcoming title (to be announced in 2016), as well as numerous health videos.
He is truly a source of inspiration advocating plant-based diets and the end of animal cruelty worldwide, Dr. Klaper contributed to the making of two PBS television programs Food for Thought and the award-winning Diet for a New America movie based on the book of the same name by author and former heir to the Baskin-Robbins fortune, John Robbins. He teaches his students and patients that “health comes from healthy living,” and is dedicated to the healing and flourishing of all living beings and of the planet itself.
Dr. Michael Klaper graduated in 1972 from University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. He served his medical internship at Vancouver General Hospital in British Columbia, Canada and undertook additional training in surgery, anesthesiology, and orthopedics at the University of British Columbia Hospitals in Vancouver, and obstetrics at the University of California Hospitals in San Francisco.
As Dr. Klaper’s medical career progressed, he began to realize (true to what science is bearing out today) that many of the diseases his patients presented with – clogged arteries (atherosclerosis), high blood pressure (hypertension), obesity, adult onset diabetes, and even some forms of arthritis, asthma, and other significant illnesses – were made worse or actually caused by the high-fat, high sugar, overly processed Standard American Diet (S.A.D.).
Accordingly, Dr. Klaper resolutely believes that proper nutrition and a balanced lifestyle are essential for health and, in many cases, can make the difference between healing an illness or merely treating its symptoms.
As a passionate and devoted educator of physicians and other healthcare professionals about the importance of nutrition in clinical practice, Dr. Michael Klaper served as the Director of the non-profit Institute of Nutrition Education and Research.
He was also a member of the Nutrition Task Force of the American Medical Student Association, and served as an advisor to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) project on nutrition for long-term space colonists on the moon and Mars.
For over ten years, he hosted the popular medical information radio program Sounds of Healing on WPFW in Washington, DC and KAOI 1110 AM on Maui, Hawaii.
Dr. Michael Klaper practiced acute care medicine in New Zealand for three years and currently serves on the staff of the TrueNorth Health Center in Santa Rosa, California, a nutritionally-based medical clinic specializing in therapeutic fasting and health improvement through a whole-foods, plant-based diet. Dr. Michael Klaper is licensed to practice medicine in California and Hawaii.

IN THIS EPISODE:The dairy industry has been around for a very long time - and for all that time we’ve been told that milk is good for us. Remember? “Milk, it does a body good!” But is that true? My guest today is an expert in the field and has discovered just how much we’ve been lied to over the years. Not only is dairy NOT good for us, it actually causes much of the sickness we see in the world today.
Dr. Klaper is someone I’ve wanted to have on my show for quite a while because he comes from a dairy industry background, having worked on his grandfather’s dairy farm as a boy. He knows how brainwashed everyone in the industry is because he was once in the same shoes. He also knows how we as consumers have been led to believe the exact opposite of what is true. Not only that, he’s got the experience as a physician to see the real life changes that happen when his patients get off dairy entirely.
One of the things Dr. Klaper says about his medical practice is that he’s one of the happiest doctors he knows. That’s because he is constantly seeing his patients get well. The non-dairy recommendations he makes bring dramatic changes to all kinds of chronic conditions almost immediately. He’s convinced how poisonous dairy is to the human body because he’s seen the results of removing it from the diet.
If you want to know what you can do to help wean our country off the poisons that exist naturally in dairy products it starts with you. You’ve got to commit yourself to getting off all dairy products for the sake of your own health first. While you’re doing that you’ll be sending a financial message to the dairy industry that won’t believe their propaganda and lies anymore.
There’s nothing like a drop income to get somebody’s attention. And the dairy industry needs that kind of wake-up call. It’s been far too long that we’ve been lied to and deceived into eating something that does an enormous amount of harm to our bodies. Will you be one of the people who makes a difference? It can be hard to change dietary habits but for your own health and the health of those you love, it’s worth the sacrifice. And you’ll discover a whole new world of great tasting foods out there in the process.
Outline Of This Great EpisodeTODAY’S GUEST:
Nicholai Jablokov is the President, CEO, and co-founder of Good State Inc, an ionic mineral and nutritional supplement company founded in 2009 based in Fort Washington, PA. A former college athlete, Nicholai had goals and aspirations of making it to the next level. He had the physical tools and mental makeup but was unable to perform at his highest level due to severe nutrient deficiencies. After personal research and due diligence, he was able to understand the benefits and importance of a complete nutritional program. From there, he worked in major vitamin & health retail stores and helped countless customers get themselves on track towards a healthier lifestyle. Over time he realized the amount of energy and effort it took to try and pick out quality supplement products from a seemingly endless selection. It then became his goal to start a company which provided top quality supplements and support to help people give their body what it needs for a good state of health. From his research and experience, he decided that highly absorbable ionic minerals were the direction he needed to go. Nearly 10 years later and thousands of customers served, it is still Nicholai's belief that the key to a good state of health is providing the body what it needs in the correct absorbable form.

IN THIS EPISODE:One of my most downloaded episodes is the one Lloyd and I did a while back about vitamin and mineral supplements. That means you’re probably going to really enjoy the topic of this episode. It’s about how you can get the minerals for your body and their importance for our health. But it’s not only about taking supplements to ensure you’re getting the minerals you need, it’s about taking them in the right way and in the right form. My guest today has the experience and knowledge to tell us all about those variables and how to apply them to our health appropriately. I want you to meet Nicholai Jablokov.
Minerals are one of the things your body CANNOT do without. But it’s not as easy as getting a multi-mineral supplement from your health food store or grocer. While those may in fact contain the minerals you need, they are likely not in a FORM your body can actually use. So they are a waste of money and effort, and worst of all get your hope up that you’ll benefit when you won’t. You’ve got to get the right minerals for the body, which means the right form of mineral just as much as anything else. Nicholai Jablokov is leading the way with his company. Find out more by listening.
Ionic minerals are the right minerals for the body. They are the form that the body can actually utilize. But what makes the difference between ionic minerals and earth minerals - and more importantly, how can you tell if you’re getting the right kind? My guest today is Nicholai Jablokov, a man who has studied the issue and created the right minerals for the body to solve his own health problems. You can hear his story and find out what he’s produced to help others, on this episode.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that there’s a one-size-fits-all approach to getting the right minerals for your body. You can’t expect that a multi-mineral from the health food store will solve your mineral problems because YOUR body has specific needs that are unique to you. You need to be able to do a hair test to find out exactly what minerals you are deficient in. Nicholai Jablokov chats with me about how his company, Good State approaches the issue of specific minerals for specific people, on this episode. I think you’ll be encouraged by the good work they are doing.
If you need to take control of your health issues you need to be aware of the deficiencies most people experience when it comes to minerals. Magnesium and potassium are two of the most common that people need and are not getting. On this episode of Vidal Speaks you can find out how to discover your own unique needs and more importantly, how to remedy your problems. I chat with Nikolai Jablokov of Good State on this episode.

IN THIS EPISODE:Many more people have thought about becoming vegan than you might think. The reason is that there’s something inside each of us that knows that eating plant-based is much more sustainable and healthy than eating animal-based. On this episode, I’m chatting with a wonderful person who is one of the leading voices in the vegan lifestyle community, Victoria Moran.
Victoria Moran has been sharing her story for many years about how she became vegan after discovering her own food addiction. It was that pivotal moment that inspired her once and for all to pursue a healthier life, which did include her transition to a vegan way of eating and living.
On this episode, Victoria Moran and I talk about many, many important issues that the vegan lifestyle touches on. From the health impact of becoming vegan to the environmental and animal rights issues, you’ll find Victoria not only a zealous advocate of the vegan way of life but also a voice of reason and sanity in the conversation.
If you are considering becoming vegan I encourage you to hear Victoria’s story and the reasons behind her passionate advocacy for the vegan lifestyle. She’s a person who looks at it not only from the standpoint of the data but also from a common sense and compassionate stance. She’s a truly amazing person who is an inspiration in so many ways.
At the end of this episode, I asked my guest, Victoria Moran for 3 simple steps a person could take if they are considering becoming vegan and she gave some of the most practical and simple advice I’ve heard on the subject. I think it’s doable for anyone, even you, so please take the time to listen.
Outline Of This Great EpisodeRev. Olivia Bareham, founder of Sacred Crossings is a certified Death Midwife, Home Funeral Guide and Celebrant. She holds bachelor's degrees in Education and Natural Theology and Sacred Healing and is an ordained Inter-faith Minister. Olivia’s experience as an auxiliary nurse, hospice volunteer and her mother’s end-of-life caregiver, inspired her to investigate more meaningful and personal alternatives to traditional funeral practices.
“At the event of death and for a few days following, there is a window of opportunity for great healing to occur. When the funeral home took my mother’s body away just hours after her death, I felt this window close. We were left feeling helpless, unsure and wishing that we had had a little more time.”
In an effort to provide a way to keep this window open and facilitate the healing process, Olivia immersed herself in the study of death and dying culminating in certification as a Death Midwife and Home Funeral Guide. She subsequently created Sacred Crossings with the mission of empowering and guiding families to reclaim the ‘Lost art and healing ritual of a Home Funeral’. Over the next ten years the demand for information about conscious dying, after-death care and home funerals increased:
“When I was called bedside to help an individual make their transition, they were often remorseful about unresolved relationships, or fearful of what was going to happen, or stressed about their suffering. It seemed that transitioning would be a gentler, less stressful process if people learned how to prepare ahead of time. Also, when a loved-one died, families were often completely unprepared. They were unaware of their options for after-death care and the complex funeral industry made them feel helpless, vulnerable and afraid. It became clear there was a huge need for death education so I began teaching classes and workshops on The Art of Dying, After-death Care and Home Funerals.”
Olivia is a writer, producer and public speaker. She is an active member of the National Home Funeral Alliance, and past President of the board for The Los Angeles Hospice at Anam Cara in Topanga Canyon. Sacred Crossings is a Los Angeles-based company offering education, support and guidance for conscious dying and home funerals. Sacred Crossing Guides assist families with end-of-life planning; death midwifery; creating a vigil and funeral at home and cremation or burial arrangements. Their education institute offers workshops and classes and a certificate program in The Art of Death Midwifery. Students are both professional and non-professional end-of-life caregivers and those wishing to delve deeper into the dying process to further their spiritual growth. Graduates of the death midwifery program are eligible to serve as Sacred Crossing Guides. The Sacred Crossings Funeral Home is coming soon & will offer a full range of services including cremation, burial, funerals and memorials. Sacred Crossings is a non-denominational service without cultural or religious discrimination. While it is best to begin funeral planning in advance, we can help a family at any time.

IN THIS EPISODE:It may sound strange to you to think about having a death midwife, but it really makes sense when you think about it. We hire a midwife to come in at the birth of a child - the entrance into this life. Why wouldn’t it be appropriate to hire a midwife for death, the departure from this life? My guest today IS a death midwife and is training others with the skills to fill this important role in helping those who are dying and their families deal with the fact of death in a more healthy and positive way.
Death is one of those transitions in life that is so strange and uncomfortable that people don’t like to talk about it. But that’s only because we’ve been taught to be uncomfortable about it. In many cultures, there are family rituals centered around the death of a loved one that actually help with closure and healing over the 3 days following the death.
A death midwife’s role is to come into a family situation and help those struggling with the death process to learn, grow, and come to accept the inevitable fact of death for all of us. It’s a healthy process of listening, asking questions, and learning as everyone learns how to say goodbye in a healthy way that benefits the one dying as well as those who survive them.
What is YOUR biggest fear about dying? Is it the pain? In this conversation Olivia and I chat about how the pain is not such a fearful thing and why it’s not the best thing for people to be over medicated to the point that they can’t interact with their family or friends during the last days of their lives. It robs everyone of a very important part of the death transition that could make the experience more positive for everyone.
If you are curious about end of life issues and the role that a death midwife might be able to play in your family or future, I encourage you to listen to this conversation. I learned a lot myself about the positive role a death midwife can play in an otherwise uncomfortable and difficult situation. I hope you find something in Olivia’s stories and experiences that will bring you hope and help as you deal with death in your own life.

So this week I’m doing a meSPEAKS episode, where it’s just me giving you some tips about what you can do to prepare yourself for the cold and flu season. I want you to be well, to live life, and to be free of the illnesses that plague so many people this time of year. So get something you can write with and take good notes. I’ve got a lot of common sense and easy approaches to share with you after all the years of helping patients treat & prevent their winter illnesses with natural methods including homeopathy, diet, herbs, supplements & other lifestyle tips.
IN THIS EPISODE:I believe that it’s entirely possible to prevent flu and cold from taking over your life during the winter time, and you do it by using natural methods, not by getting medicines from the drugstore or from your doctor. Before the heavy flu season sets in across the country, I wanted to do this episode to share my experience with you about what you can do to prevent flu, cold, and other seasonal maladies so you can live to the fullest this winter. But if you do succumb to the flu, cold or other seasonal illness, then I also want to teach you how to treat it naturally.
When you’re trying to prevent flu and cold from overtaking you it’s important that you keep things like stress, busy-ness, and diet in mind. You can’t expect to beat the onset of flu if your lifestyle is antithetical to health in the first place. On this episode, I do cover some homeopathic remedies you can use to stave off the flu but first I address lifestyle issues that can make you stronger in the first place so that flu and cold won’t get a foothold in your body.
One of the main things you need to understand when battling flu is that the fever is by and large, your friend. You don’t want to suppress the fever unless it gets too high. What’s too high? I’m personally comfortable letting a fever as high as 104 degrees run its course. But I’d never tell you to let it go if it makes you fearful or uncomfortable. But I think you should hear why I say that 104 is not too high and then make up your own mind. So listen to this episode to hear why I’ve come to that conclusion.
Can you keep from getting sick when someone in your home is battling flu or a cold? I believe you can. In fact, I’ve done it for years even though I’m around sick people all the time as a homeopath. If you will take the time to listen to this episode and apply the things you learn I’m certain you’ll fight off the flu and cold that is so prevalent this time of year and live a healthier life overall as a result.

IN THIS EPISODE:The health insurance industry is a corrupt and money-hungry racket. There, I said it - and I’m glad that I did because somebody has to tell the truth about how we’re all being taken advantage of by corporations and by the law of the land. But there’s an option available now that enables you to get the preventative care you need instead of paying to wait for a health disaster. I want to introduce you to Greensurance on this episode - a health care coop that I really believe in.
My guest today is Kari Gray, the CEO of Greensurance, a healthcare alternative that is interested in helping you take care of yourself so you don’t require major healthcare coverage but will also be there for you if you do develop a serious condition or experience an accident of some kind. I hope you’ll take the time to listen to this conversation I had with Kari. She’s got an amazing idea that’s going to sweep the world by storm.
Why should you pay a monthly premium for the “just in case” incidents and major expenses when what you should be doing is keeping yourself healthy to begin with through alternative medicines or treatments? Kari Gray and the Greensurance team don’t believe you should, and are doing everything they can to make it possible for you to be healthy so you don’t NEED major medical coverage. Find out more about this Obamacare-legal alternative - Greensurance, on this episode.
Most health care insurance isn’t health care, it’s sick-care. It’s something you only need if you’re sick. But does that mean you get rewarded if you don’t get sick? No way. You have to pay the outlandish premiums anyway. There’s got to be a better way. And there is, but it will only have the ability to help us if we band together and make it possible. You’ve got support the change you want to see, and Greensurance is one amazing way we can all do that in the healthcare field. Listen to find out more.
Many people feel that Doctors or healthcare practitioners are crooks because their prices are so high. But the reality is that many of them are genuine people who care for their patients but the grip and leverage the insurance companies have on them requires the high prices they have to charge. What if medical practitioners were able to get paid what they earn and received it in a timely way? That would transform the cost equation of the healthcare industry. Greensurance has an amazing alternative to traditional health care insurance that changes all of that. Find out more on this episode.

IN THIS EPISODE:There is so much controversy in the news these days about cannabis. But raw cannabis is something you don’t hear mentioned very often. But it’s one of the most powerful and easy to administer substances that can bring true healing to a wide variety of conditions and diseases. My guest on this episode has spent the last 4 years going in depth on the properties and healing power of raw cannabis and shares them with us freely.
Oleg Nagaytsev started his experimentation with cannabis in the traditional marijuana form many years ago but quickly discovered that it wasn’t the high that was most important about this age old medicine. Its ability to heal everything from cancer to ADHD to dementia is what he’s discovered and he’s eager to let the world know how effectively this plant can heal.
One of the problems with cannabis is that it’s not legal everywhere. States like Washington, Colorado, and Florida have made the growing and possession of cannabis legal but the laws in other states are only looking at it as a drug, not as a medicine, and there’s a huge difference. What I like about what my guest on this episode is doing is that he’s taking the raw form of cannabis and making it into tinctures that heal without the high, and that matters a lot.
You don’t have to worry about getting high from using raw cannabis to treat your ailments because the psychotropic effects of cannabis are only activated as the plant is heated or dried. But crush it up and use it in a smoothie, or better yet use it in a tincture that is administered anally or vaginally and you’ll get an even more potent and powerful treatment for what ails you.
My guest today is incredibly knowledgable about the use of cannabis in its raw form and is eager to let others know how effectively it can be used to heal a wide variety of diseases that big pharma can’t even touch. He’s not trying to make a lot of money from his products, he’s just trying to let people know that they can take control of their health and heal themselves, without the high that so many people are afraid of. I hope you take the time to listen to this episode of Vidal Speaks to learn how raw cannabis can help you and the people you love.

I am also an avid reader, seeker of God, weight gain/weight loss aficionado, ex-pot smoker, alcoholic, junkie, speed freak, raw foodist, vegan, lover, hater, father, husband, grad student, good guy, bad guy, social activist.
I received my high school diploma when I was 51. I would have done it when I was younger but I was busy. Early in this century I was admitted to UCSB where I earned a BA in History. I then entered an MA program in the Humanities Department at San Francisco State University to sate a lifelong fascination in the subject. I’m particularly intrigued by the migration of cultures, peoples, and souls.
As the subject of the documentary MAY I BE FRANK?, I have become a spokesperson for personal transformation and weight loss. My experience dealing with these struggles from a holistic perspective compels me to speak about the power of transformation that rests in all of us. I am not an expert nor do I have the answer. I have witnessed the indisputable fact that we are all connected. What we do can and will make a difference.

IN THIS EPISODE:We all know that taking personal responsibility for your own issues and moving toward healing from the pain can be a hard thing to do. None of us come by that kind of courage naturally because the pain and fear hold us back. Normal is often more comfortable than the difficult path toward healing. But my guest today has a story that is a wonderful example of what can happen when you do take personal responsibility for your healing and walk the path to get there. I want you to meet Frank Ferrante, an inspirational author and speaker, on this episode of Vidal Speaks.
Frank grew up in a very hostile, unhealthy environment. Those are his own words. It was the difficulty of those formative years that drove him to seek solace in all kinds of things that were not good for him, from hard drugs to overeating. But Frank has come to see that though he’s still got significant pain from things done wrong to him, there’s nobody responsible for changing the effect of those things except himself. I hope you’ll listen to Frank Ferrante’s story. It’s not only inspiring, it’s powerfully motivating for anyone who’s struggling with addiction or obesity.
You wouldn’t expect a guy who was in Frank Ferrante’s shoes to be the one to step beyond the pain and suffering he’d experienced to become an example for others to follow. His own wounds went so deep and his obesity and poor self-image were such debilitating problems, he was the last guy you’d consider for that kind of role. But an encounter with some young people who dared to love and encourage him made all the difference. When you hear the impact these simple gestures of friendship made in Frank’s life you’ll be able to see that your words and love toward others could make a powerful difference as well.
It’s never easy to deal with the pain of abuse and addiction. But there comes a point in every life where the pain becomes unacceptable and you have to do something about it. Frank Ferrante’s story of overcoming those kinds of wounds is powerful because he wasn’t even in a place to want that kind of healing when someone challenged him, through love, to take personal responsibility for himself and make positive changes. I hope you take the time to get to know Frank as he shares his story on this episode. He’s got lots of heart and compassion and could be the one person who can speak to you right where you are.
Life isn’t a linear process. That’s one of the things my guest on this episode, Frank Ferrante shares about how his progress and setbacks have contributed to making him who he is today. He’s not one of those guru’s who only lets you see the polished side of his life. In fact, he's not a guru at all. Frank is a normal guy who is very open about the continuing struggles he has and the hope that comes when he is honest about his life and the responsibility he has to take to make it better. You’ll love the humble heart Frank speaks from, so I hope you’ll take a bit of time to enjoy an inspirational story of overcoming the odds and making a change that lasts.

IN THIS EPISODE:I’m eager to bring you the important information about climate change that is in this second half of my conversation with Dr. Reese Halter. His work is so important because it tells the real story behind the destruction of our environment, but more importantly, he tells us specific ways that each of us as individuals can help turn things around.
The devastation that we human beings have caused and continue to cause to our planet is inexcusable now that we’re able to see the effects our actions are having. The outrageous thing is that even with the knowledge we have huge companies that make pesticides and other harmful chemicals continue to do the things that are destroying our planet. On this episode, you’re going to learn about the damage these things are causing and why it’s endangering our own survival.
The climate change that we’re seeing is caused by the things we’re doing to live an easier life as human beings - but we’re doing so oblivious to the many other species of plants, animals, and insects that share the earth with us. It's that oversight that is killing us. Dr. Reese Halter shares the results of his years of study into these issues on this episode of the podcast and I encourage you to hear the truth he has to share with an open mind.
When the damage to our planet from our own actions is as massive as it is, it’s easy to feel that you can’t do anything to turn back the tide. But that’s simply not true. Every little thing you or I are able to do will make a difference. And when enough of us do those little things, BIG changes can happen in a relatively short amount of time.
Find out how you can join with me, Dr. Reese Halter, and thousands of others to turn back the effects of climate change on our planet through simple, everyday decisions that will stop the abuse and begin the healing. It’s all on this episode of the Vidal Speaks podcast so please - PLEASE take the time to learn about these important issues.
