Video Junkyard Podcast

A creepy old house, a family stranded, an old toymaker, and his killer dolls, sprinkle this mixture with a little fairy tale magic and you get the 1987 Stuart Gordan/Charles Band horror film "Dolls". Should we play with this one forever or put it back on the shelf? Come on into the Video Junkyard.

This week we return from an unplanned hiatus to visit the slums of Rio as we talk about the critically acclaimed Brazilian crime drama "City of God" (2002). Welcome back to the Junkyard. More shows are coming your way every week, and we have so many in the bank right now we might even give you two new shows a week for a while. We'll see what we can do.

This week we skim the bargain bin and find one we've never even heard of before. How does a film like this fly under our radar? It features two of our favorite actors (Nicolas Cage and Willem Dafoe) and was directed by critically acclaimed writer/director Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull). That must mean this one is really a stinker, right? Well, we don't want to spoil the show, you'll have to tune in and find out what we thought of the 2016 crime thriller "Dog Eat Dog".

On this episode of the Video Junkyard Podcast, we take a look at the 1995 American comedy/detective film "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls". Jim Carrey reprises his role as the titular pet detective (we tried to avoid the first one for...reasons), this time venturing (get it?) to Africa to recover a stolen albino bat in an effort to stop two tribes from going to war with one another. While the first Ace Ventura film has NOT aged well, how does the sequel stand? Check out the episode to find out! Take care now, bye bye then...

Welcome back to the Junkyard.  We're back from an impromptu summer break with the 80s Aussie classic "Crocodile Dundee."  Comedian Paul Hogan stars as the titular Dundee in this rom-com from down under.  He also wrote the script.  Does the loveable bushman Mick Dundee still inspire all the laughs he did in the 1980s when he first debuted?  Join us for the show this week and let us know what you think of this 80s "classic.

Happy 4th of July to all of our favorite Junkyard Junkies! This week we're celebrating by re-visiting Joe Dante's darkly comic fantasy film Small Soldiers! This film originally invaded theaters in 1998, but is it worth unwrapping in the 21st century? Come along as we protect the peaceful Gorgonites from the Commando Elite, and YES, there will be explosions!

This time we follow up on our "A Fish Called Wanda" episode by taking a look at its spiritual sequel "Fierce Creatures" (1997). This movie has the same star-studded cast but is often called a poor attempt to recapture the magic of "Wanda." Can this 'creature' walk on its own, or should it stay buried in the video junkyard?

This time we take off to deep space to check out the sci-fi/horror monster movie "Pitch Black." Director David Twohy's film was a launchpad for Vin Diesel's career and the first of the "Riddick" franchise. This movie was a sleeper hit back in the noughties, but is it worth revisiting? We share our thoughts and other mad ramblings. Join Us!

On this episode of the Video Junkyard Podcast, the guys dive into an 80s comedy classic with "A Fish Called Wanda". Directed by Charles Crichton and featuring John Cleese, Michael Palin, Kevin Kline, and Jamie Lee Curtis, "A Fish Called Wanda" tells of a gang of diamond thieves who double-cross one another to find stolen diamonds hidden by the gang leader. When a barrister (Cleese) becomes a central figure, femme fatale Wanda (Curtis)uses him to locate the loot and keep them out of jail.

The pairing of Monty Python alumni with Kline and Curtis brought in rave reviews when the film was released in 1988, but does it still make a splash in 2023? Check out the Video Junkyard Podcast to find out!

At long last we return to the comfortable confines of "Full Moon Features" as we talk about the latest Jim Wynoski film to inspire a franchise. That's right, it's "Attack of the 50 Foot Camgirl". Join us for a larger than life episode of the Video Junkyard Podcast!
