Ukraine is facing renewed Russian missile and drone attacks following a brief pause linked to recent visits by U.S. envoys to Moscow and Kyiv.

Ahead of another difficult winter, European allies are increasing support, including a new $135 million U.K. air-defense package featuring Patriot missiles, while EU member states have agreed to disburse €3.2 billion to Ukraine for the purchase of Patriot interceptor missiles.

Meanwhile, President Zelenskyy announced Tuesday that he is hoping for a meeting with President Donald Trump by late September.

Domestically, Ukraine is once again dealing with a corruption scandal after Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko resigned amid an investigation into an alleged scheme to protect fraudulent call centers.

Ukraine Brief’s host Klaudia Czerwińska is joined by Oleksiy Goncharenko, a Ukrainian MP from the European Solidarity party, to discuss Ukraine’s urgent need for air defense, prospects for a possible step-by-step ceasefire, and the corruption case involving a senior official in the Prosecutor General's Office.

Following visits by Donald Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv, Kushner described a potential Russia–Ukraine peace deal as a “win-win” scenario. Is such a resolution of the conflict even possible?

“A win for one side is a loss to the other. There’s no real possibility of a ‘win-win’,” Stuart Dowell, TVP World’s Political Editor, said. “A win for Russia would not simply be to make an additional small gain in Donetsk. They might pause this stage of the war after gaining that in a possible negotiation. But I think most analysts believe that this would only be a pause.”

He added that Putin has made clear he ultimately wants Ukraine under Moscow’s control and NATO pushed back, allowing Russia to rebuild its sphere of influence in Central and Eastern Europe.

Dowell believes only a “strategic defeat” could force Putin to seek terms. Russia’s failure to win the war is already a setback, he argued, but much greater pressure, potentially including unrest triggered by mobilization, would be needed.

“And it’s only something like that that would persuade Putin that continuing the war is not in his advantage,” Dowell said. “And even the specter of collapse of his regime and a large strategic defeat would possibly lead to something like that.”

Russia’s occupation of Crimea and southern Ukraine has a very basic problem: sustaining fuel supplies.

Ukrainian drones are systematically targeting the logistics routes supplying Russian forces and occupied territories. Fuel trucks and tankers are being destroyed along the mainland corridor through Mariupol, putting growing pressure on a critical supply route. The consequences are reaching civilians too. In Crimea, people are reportedly waiting for hours at gas stations and facing strict fuel limits, while some tourists are desperately searching for enough diesel to get home.
