At the very end of Proverbs, the book makes a dramatic turn.  Chapter after chapter of teaching wisdom, and then at the end, an admission that we are still not wise and we know almost nothing about God.

If perfect love casts out fear, why does the wisdom literature state, over and again, that fear of God is the beginning of wisdom?

Conflict can cause a lot of pain and loss--and it can also liberate.  We need wisdom in the midst of our disagreements.

What is faith, and what does it mean to live our lives according to faith in Christ?

Vocation is one of the major themes of Proverbs: the ways we spend our energies and talents serving the people around us.  Continuing to try to hear from times and places other than our own, we take a look at Luther's theology of vocation, and how God is able to inhabit the everyday, humble world in which we live.

Proverbs has a lot to say about raising children--blessed, beloved children.

Wisdom is hard to offend, slow to anger.  It abides conflict and difference all the while searching for ways to let love cover sin.

Some things we use every day, but if we're careless, or worse--cruel--they would be devastating.  Fire, knives--our words.  Words are both routine and powerful, so we have to take great care.

For centuries, the church widely believed and taught about fortune, the idea that not everything happens for a reason.  It's an idea we need to recover for the sake of the renewal of our churches today as we learn to be content in every circumstance and trust in the sufficiency and the goodness of God.
