I am grateful for the conviction of Derek Chauvin for it is a small step towards having some form of Justice here in America for Americans of African decent and other people who look like me. This poem is from my book My Inner City Blues, Views from My Reality, which is available on lulu.com and amazon, entitled My Country Tis of Thee. I hope you will enjoy and share. As many of my poems are written from my viewpoint and personal experiences, this poem was inspired when I was a Foster Grandparent at Bridgeview Elementary School, in South Charleston, WV. I would have to sit behind a partition every day because I did not want to pledge Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America (which is another poem I may do later). It pained me to see the indoctrination that the young people were receiving and how it was implanting a false reality into their minds which will be met with reality in a few short moments. I knew oh too well from waiting on the bus and people riding by calling me the N-Word, and I was thankful that that was all that they did, because I may not be here to tell the story, and the sad reality is that no one may have ever known.
