We covered a lot of ground today, including the Vikings' success in finding talented players outside of the first round of the NFL draft. We talked about four of the top draft steals of the last decade, including Stefon Diggs, Danielle Hunter, Dalvin Cook, and Brian O'Neill, who have all become key contributors to the Vikings' success on the field.

We also discussed the team's need for offensive linemen, and PFF analyst Brad Spielberg's suggestion that the Vikings should sign offensive guard Oday Aboushi to improve their offensive line before the 2023 NFL season begins. Adding depth to the interior of the offensive line could be beneficial for the Vikings, especially with the uncertainty surrounding the performance of some of their current guards.

In this latest episode of Two Old Bloggers, the Darren and Dave discuss the NFL's gambling problem and how the Vikings should be reacting to it. While no Vikings players have been suspended for gambling violations, the hosts recommend that the team take extra steps in education and consistent messaging to make sure players understand the league's gambling policy and its consequences. They note that while the NFL does have measures in place to educate players about its gambling policy, such as mandatory sessions for rookies and in-person visits to team facilities by league officials, this may not be enough. They suggest that the Vikings should be proactive in team meetings and at their facility in posting lots of information about the gambling policy and drilling it into players' heads what they can and can't do.

Finally, the hosts spotlight Vikings draftee Jordan Addison, who was picked with the 23rd overall selection in the first round. Addison played three years of college and was very productive in all three years, with a total of 219 receptions, over 3,400 receiving yards, and 34 touchdowns. The hosts note that Addison is a safe pick but also a very good one, with strengths that include his ability to separate and make corners miss even when they press him, his versatility as a receiver, and his route running ability and football IQ. They also acknowledge his weaknesses, including his size (5'11" and 173 pounds) and struggles with contested catches. They predict that Addison will have a sizable role on the team in 2023, potentially as the #2 or #3 wide receiver, and compare him to players like Calvin Ridley, Devonta Smith, and Tyler Lockett.

Welcome back to the Vikings Daily Opener for June 30th, 2023. We are now just 72 days away from the start of the Vikings week 1 season opener.

The NFC North division promises to be highly competitive this season, with each team having its own strengths and weaknesses. Nonetheless, the Packers are currently seen as the most likely team to finish last in the upcoming 2023 season due to their challenges in transitioning to a new quarterback and their weaker supporting cast in comparison to the other teams in the division.

Head coach Kevin O'Connell is focusing on creating a more balanced offense for the team by improving their running game. The team needs to take advantage of the situations where running is more effective than passing, which will create a more balanced offense and make it easier for them to score.

According to ESPN, the Minnesota Vikings have an average roster in the NFL, ranking 16th overall. The team's strongest unit is their offensive tackle position, with Christian Darrisaw and Brian O'Neill being standout players. On the other hand, the weakest unit for the Vikings is their cornerback position, with some young and unproven players hoping to fill the void.

Justin Jefferson, the wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings, has been named the global flag football ambassador by the NFL and IFAF, and he expressed his excitement to continue growing the sport.

Welcome to today's edition of the Vikings Daily Opener. We are now 73 days away from the Vikings' week 1 season opener. In this episode, we discuss a variety of topics, including the disrespect towards Justin Jefferson, the Curse of 1998, the Vikings' training camp, the new NFLPA executive director, and the state of the Vikings' wide receiver position.

Pat McAfee made an unsupportable comment about Justin Jefferson on his show, claiming that Dalvin Cook's presence on the field was the reason behind Jefferson's high level of production. However, this argument ignores the reality of the Vikings' offensive strategy, which ran through Jefferson. The Vikings were also top 3 in passing attempts per game last season, further supporting the argument that Jefferson's success was not due to Cook's presence.

We also discussed the Curse of 1998 in an article that explores the Vikings' struggles after the tragic 1998 season. The team entered purgatory, missing the playoffs for six out of the next seven years, and never finishing better than 8-8. The article highlights the Vikings' draft incompetence and missed opportunities, leading to their struggles.

The NFL Players Association has announced that Lloyd Howell will be the new executive director, taking over from DeMaurice Smith by the end of 2024. Howell, who was the treasurer and chief financial officer of Booz Allen, will be the fourth executive director in the NFLPA's history, following in the footsteps of Smith, Gene Upshaw, and Ed Garvey.
