If you're a Minnesota Vikings fan, you won't want to miss the latest episode of Vikings Daily Opener! In this episode of the Vikings Daily Opener, Tyler Forness and Thor Nystrom discuss the Vikings' QB conundrum and the possibility of drafting a quarterback in the first round. They also cover other storylines such as Kene Nwangwu as RB2, trading Justin Jefferson for the first overall pick, and potential draft sleepers for 2024. Fans of the Vikings can stay updated on all of these issues throughout the offseason by tuning in to Purple Daily on Draft.
USA Today's NFL Wire has identified one player from each NFL team who is facing a make-or-break season in 2023. For the Vikings, quarterback Kirk Cousins is on the last year of his current contract, and he is in a weird spot. He has four void years totaling $28.25 million in dead cap, which would make an extension more likely since the cap burden for 2024 would be lessened. However, an extension would likely prevent the team from trying to get younger at the most important position in football. A great season that improves on what he did in 2022 would make an extension a more palatable idea.
Pro Football Focus has conducted a ranking of the NFL's receiving groups, and the Minnesota Vikings have secured the seventh spot on the list, which is a notable achievement. This ranking is largely due to Justin Jefferson, who has received an elite receiving grade for three consecutive seasons. T.J. Hockenson also adds value to the team's receiving corps. However, the rest of the group, including K.J. Osborn, Jalen Reagor, and rookie Jordan Addison, have yet to make significant contributions to the team's offense.
Finally, the article delves into the different approaches being taken by the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants as they seek to build a team that can contend for the Super Bowl. The Vikings are taking philosophy as "competitive rebuilding," i.e., trying to re-tool the roster on the fly while still having a chance to contend and at the same time navigating a difficult salary cap situation. The Giants have opted to build around young players like Daniel Jones and have not made significant changes to their roster.
All this and much more!
