John 19:28-37

“After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. Since it was the day of Preparation, and so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who had been crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. He who saw it has borne witness—his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth—that you also may believe. For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken.” And again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they have pierced.””

Matthew 27:45-49

“Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” And some of the bystanders, hearing it, said, “This man is calling Elijah.” And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.””

TJ Kimmel of CORE Missions shares the importance of missions with information and steps as to how we too can make an impact! David’s victory over Goliath teaches us key principles for missions. Here are five “smooth stones” we must carry:

1. Obedience – Before facing the giant, David obeyed in the small things. What small step of obedience is God calling you to take?

2. Resources – Goliath had armor, but God gave David exactly what he needed. God has given you resources—are you using them for His mission?

3. Faith – Big victories require small steps of faith. Who is God prompting you to share the gospel with this week?

4. Freedom – God calls you to serve as YOU. Don’t imitate—embrace the freedom of using your unique gifts for His glory!

5. Urgency – The time is NOW. David didn’t hesitate, and neither should we. Let’s reach the lost and make an eternal impact!
