We recap the advent value of "love," but what does love really mean? Not only in scripture, and not what has been secularized in it... But what is the real love "elevator pitch"? Let's find out! Also, we eat some awesome cookies Kimberly made after Chris roasted them last week!

Today we react and talk through Cabe's sermon Sunday on the theme of Joy and Isiah 35! How does the beautiful Images of Jesus reviving deserts, healing families, etc play out in "real life," especially when we feel like we have "tried" and nothing is "working?" Also, if you want to get one of the hosts Christmas gifts... We have some ideas!

In our last-ditch effort to pull off another podcast without Ryan, Chris and Kimberly welcome Get Talkin’s very first guest, Rev. Cabe Matthews! In this second week of Advent, we tackle what it looks like to have peace on earth in the here and now versus after the second coming. What does it look like to turn swords into plows, and should Christians be doing that already? Chris asks the difficult question of whether Christians should be in the military, and we discuss what that looks like.

On another podcast without Ryan, Chris and Kimberly discuss the season of Advent, specifically hope. What does it mean to hope for something? Kimberly shares her confusion about hope vs faith, and they discuss going through the motions of advent vs finding new meaning in the traditions. Also the Aggies lost.

Today Chris and Kimberly discuss why Israel wanted a king. How often do we decide for ourselves what is best for us instead of looking to God and seeing the framework He has already provided? Instead of letting God change our hearts, we look for external fixes from the world. God wants to bless the Israelites, He wants to bless us, but when we turn from God’s leadership towards human leadership, we miss out on that blessing. When we live into God’s calling not only can we live into His blessing, but we get the amazing opportunity to bless others and encourage them to live into His blessing for them. Also, Chris enlightens us to another of his crazy ideas. Should Christians celebrate the Marriage Supper of the Lamb instead of Thanksgiving?

We talk a lot about Heaven, and for good reason! But what if scripture actually points to the truth that through faith Jesus is our actual heritage and home? Let's talk about it!

The core calling of people of faith is to trust God. In the Old Testament, God promised His people a home, and He promises us an eternal home as well. The way we receive that promise is simple but profound: we trust Him.

There are few things that we pursue and romanticize more as a culture than our purpose in this life. Oftentimes it comes from the hope of making the most of our time here on earth, but oftentimes the discussion morphs to being something so much more overwhelming! Let's talk about it!
