Acts 4.32–5.16

What happens when the presence of God becomes real among His people?

Acts 5 gives us the sobering story of Ananias and Sapphira and reminds us that the presence and power of the Holy Spirit are not something to take lightly. God doesn’t simply want to empower us—He wants to transform us.

As we seek more of God’s presence and power, we must also desire the character of Jesus to take deeper root in our lives. The early church was a community where people encountered the living God, experienced His power, and were being changed.

Acts 4:5-31

30 August 2026Peter and John were ordinary men, but they had been with Jesus. Now, standing before the same religious powers that rejected their Lord, they find themselves empowered by the Holy Spirit to speak with remarkable boldness. Their confidence wasn’t rooted in education, influence, or clever arguments, but in what they had seen and heard in their time with Jesus. Acts 4 invites us to become the same kind of people, so deeply shaped by Jesus and empowered by His Spirit that we can’t help but speak.

Acts 3.1-4.4

In Acts 3, Peter and John encounter a man who has been unable to walk since birth. His healing becomes more than a miracle—it becomes a sign of the kingdom of God, pointing to Jesus, the resurrection, and God's promise to restore all things. As the kingdom breaks in, lives are changed, Jesus is proclaimed, and opposition follows.

What happens when the Kingdom of God begins to take root in ordinary people? In Acts 2.42–47, Luke gives us a picture of the early church living out a radically different way of being human—devoted to the apostles' teaching, fellowship, shared meals, and prayer.

The early church wasn't simply a group of people who gathered for a religious service. They shared their lives, opened their homes, cared for one another, and made disciples through ordinary relationships.

The Kingdom is not something we simply attend. It is a life we learn to live.

At the Last Supper, the disciples argue over status, Peter insists he will never fail, the disciples misunderstand Jesus' mission, and later they fall asleep when He asks them to pray. At first these seem like unrelated moments, but Luke is weaving them together around one question: What are you trusting when life begins to fall apart? In this message from Luke 22.24–46, we discover that every disciple placed confidence in something that could not save them—status, strength, understanding, or resolve. Only Jesus entrusted Himself completely to the Father. The same question confronts us today: Where have we placed our trust, and will it endure when we are tested?

Luke 22:1-23

At the table where Jesus institutes Communion, betrayal is already in motion. Yet rather than focusing on condemnation, Jesus offers redemption, forgiveness, and the promise of His coming Kingdom. While the plans of man and the enemy can be exercised, the fulfillment of God’s plans are inevitable. Even while actively conspiring against Jesus, Judas is offered the same thing everybody else is. This week we'll explore how Christ responds to betrayal and why His invitation still stands for all who will receive it.
