We are called to goodness as citizens, slaves, wives, and husbands. We see in this passage that we are slaves of God alone and that even through worldly suffering we are given grace. We see that those who imitate Christ and pursue goodness will receive an eternal reward.

We often search for life in the wrong places, whether that be in a destructive manner or in simple thrills like roller coasters, but we need to be reminded often that the Gospel is our only hope for life, for true lasting change, and for our city.

We are promised an amazing inheritance through Christ and this should motivate us to set our hope entirely on our future reward and to live in fear of the God who redeemed us at the cost of his own son.

The first letter of Peter begins by blessing God because of the new life he guarantees believers. We rejoice in our suffering because we are designed for purity. As believers, we are wonderfully blessed because we know the fulfillment of old testament prophecies which all point to Jesus.
