Dear Friends,
I recently got an opportunity to chat with Dr. Bhalchandra Kashyapi who is a practicing Urologic Cancer Surgeon in Pune.
He shared that twenty years back, if there were a tumor in the Kidney, the whole Kidney was removed. But, now the concept is completely revamped.
Now we say if it is kidney cancer, save the Kidney as much as possible. The basic unit of the Kidney is Nephron. In each Kidney, there are approximately 10 lakh nephrons. The technical term for this is “Nephron sparing surgery”, and in simple terms, we call it partial nephrectomy. We have to remove some part of the Kidney, not the whole.
Listen to the complete episode to know more about kidney cancers and life after kidney cancer.
I'll see you soon with another interesting episode.
Till then, take care!
