ReadingRockets.org explains that “Orton–Gillingham was the first teaching approach specifically designed to help struggling readers by explicitly teaching the connections between letters and sounds. Today — decades later — many reading programs include Orton–Gillingham ideas.

Even though this is a more tedious way to learn reading, it remains the most highly effective strategy for dyslexic readers. It is considered the GOLD STANDARD for reading intervention.
