Orton-Gillingham falls under the umbrella of structured literacy.  It's a research-based methodology often incorporated in reading intervention programs.

How do Wilson and Barton compare to Orton-Gillingham and the virtual reading intervention program used in my private practice?

ReadingRockets.org explains that “Orton–Gillingham was the first teaching approach specifically designed to help struggling readers by explicitly teaching the connections between letters and sounds. Today — decades later — many reading programs include Orton–Gillingham ideas.

Even though this is a more tedious way to learn reading, it remains the most highly effective strategy for dyslexic readers. It is considered the GOLD STANDARD for reading intervention.

When you parent a child with neurodivergence (by the way, what does that even mean?), there are many challenges, fears, and anxieties.  But there is also so much joy.  I have held the core belief that we are created on and for a purpose for a long time.  I had to wrestle with that belief when my child started speech therapy because her language was not developing.

How do we approach our belief system when those we love face challenges?
