What could make someone leave a beautiful spiritual realm and return to a body that doctors believed might never recover?
In Part 2 of our conversation with neurosurgeon and near-death experiencer Dr. Eben Alexander, we pick up as he begins describing how his seven-day coma and spiritual journey came to an end.
Dr. Alexander says he repeatedly moved between different spiritual levels, using the memory of a musical melody to open what felt like portals back into the Gateway Valley and into deeper states of oneness with the God force. Each time he entered the highest realm, however, he says he was told: “You’re not here to stay.”
Eventually, those portals stopped opening.
At the same time, back in the hospital, doctors told his family that his chance of survival had fallen to around 2%, with no expectation of meaningful recovery, and recommended removing life support.
His 10-year-old son, Bond, overheard the conversation, ran into the ICU, opened his father’s eyes, and repeatedly pleaded, “Daddy, you’re going to be okay.”
Dr. Alexander says he could not physically hear or see his son in the normal sense—but somehow that pleading reached him.
And for the first time during the experience, he realized that coming back mattered.
His son needed him.

August 10 A Neurosurgeon Says Science Is Proving the Afterlife
What happens when a neurosurgeon who spent decades studying the brain has an experience that completely overturns his understanding of consciousness?
In this powerful episode of Vision Rebirth, Dr. Eben Alexander shares the near-death experience that occurred while he spent seven days in a coma from severe bacterial meningitis. Before the experience, he says his professional worldview was deeply rooted in materialist science. Afterward, he became convinced that consciousness is not created by the brain and that the spiritual realm is real.

What happens when a five-year-old leaves his body—and suddenly remembers who he was before this life?
In this powerful episode of Vision Rebirth, near-death experiencer Aaron Green shares what happened when he suddenly could not breathe while playing in a neighbor’s backyard. Aaron says his consciousness separated from his body, and he watched himself collapse while floating nearby. Rather than feeling frightened, he says leaving the body felt freeing, peaceful, and more real than physical life.
