Communication is a Message SENT and a message RECEIVED.

There are two keys to good communication: Make it Clear and Make it Safe.

Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.

Genesis 2:25 NLT

A safe place is a place where you can be loved and accepted.

**ALWAYS SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND**

Spouting off before listening to the facts is both shameful and foolish.

Proverbs 18:13 NLT

Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes.

Proverbs 19:2 NLT

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.

James 1:19 NLT

**BE WILLING TO BE VULNERABLE**

No matter how long you’ve been married, you cannot assume your spouse can read your mind.

**LET YOUR FIRST WORDS BE YOUR BEST WORDS**

Three phrases every marriage needs:

“I’m Sorry”

“I Forgive You”

“I Love You”

…And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

1 Peter 5:5 NLT

If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Matthew 6:14-16 NLT

Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
