Common vulvar irritants to know about:
- Spermicide, bactericides, glycerin, benzyl alcohol
- Benzocaine
- Chlorhexidine (found in KY jelly)
- Parabens
- Propylene glycol
- Latex
Other common lubes with many ingredients that have mild to moderate irritation (KY Jelly, Astroglide)
Water based
- Used universally in any activity
- Safe to use with condoms (latex or non-latex
- Safe to use with toys
Ex: sylk, bella Aqua d’amore
Silicone based
- Think silky
- Generally lasts longer
- Not good for silicone toys
- Generally for more sensitive skin
Ex: uberlube, sliquid (certain types)
Hybrid (water and silicone based)
Ex: sliquid organics
Oil based
- Can be used during sex and massage oil
- Should not be used with condoms
