Jaylyn Agnew, VIS League member and professional basketball player shares her journey to the draft, along with her experience in the WNBA and playing overseas in Russia. Being drafted, going abroad, and facing a season-ending injury all during a global pandemic, Jaylyn speaks with us about all of the unexpected variables that occurred during her rookie season, and her journey of regaining strength and confidence in the midst of such an uncertain period. “If I have a tough day, I give myself time to sulk and be a little upset, but then I'm going to attack the next day harder. I'm going be better in rehab. I'm going to be better on the court. I just try to get out of my own head and make that next day even better”- Jaylyn Agnew. 

Olympic silver medalist, Emma Weyant is a member of Team USA Swim, and a collegiate swimmer at the University of Virginia. She is a three-time US National champion and has won gold for Team USA in the 400 IM at the Junior Pan Pacific Nationals in 2018 and 2019. This past summer, she won silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. In this episode, Emma reminds us that confidence comes from preparation, and that success comes from stepping out of your comfort zone. Emma shares the sacrifices she’s had to make to become successful and how she balanced the student-athlete life during the Covid pandemic. Gwen Jorgensen, professional marathoner and Gold Medalist in the triathlon at the 2016 Rio Olympics, as well as 17-time ITU World Triathlon Series Winner, shares her journey in sports. She takes us through being a two-sport athlete in running and swimming at the University of Wisconsin, and how this shaped her into the athlete she is today. Gwen shares the importance of taking care of your body, physically and mentally in order to have longevity in the sport. She takes us through how she handles pain during races and how she builds her mental strength in training. Gwen emphasizes the importance of focusing on what you can control and having self-confidence. Gia Trevisan, a professional 400 meter runner for Team Italy, explains the importance of having a growth mindset in training and in competition. She shares how learning to see obstacles as opportunities for growth has helped her succeed at the University of Arizona and in her Professional career. Gia shares great tips on how to develop a growth mindset and manage race anxiety in the podcast and takes us through how she fell in love with track as a senior in high school, and worked her way to winning Italian nationals in 2019. She explains how the pandemic and the lack of races reinforced her growth mindset and how it helped her develop as an athlete. Lydia Jacoby, a Gold and Silver Medalist in the 100m breaststroke and 4x100m medley relay at the 2020 Olympics, shares her journey to Tokyo. She takes us through how she overcame the difficult age of 12-14 when all of her friends began dropping out of sport, all the way to becoming an Olympian at 17 years old. Lydia shares the difficulties of training during the pandemic, and highlights the importance of having people who support you, be it the community from her hometown in Alaska, or coaches and family. Lydia also emphasizes the importance of personalizing our training and listening to our bodies; knowing when they need time off and when to push in training. Ifeoma Onumonu, a professional soccer player for FC Gotham and a member of the Nigerian National Team, as well as a member of the Black Women’s Players Collective and a VIS League Mentor shares her journey in sport and advocacy. She takes us through her experience with injury in college and her struggles with confidence while moving through different teams in the NWSL. As a BWPC board member, Ify uses her voice and her platform to increase exposure to soccer in Black communities. She explains, “I think it can be very bleak when you're in a space where no one else looks like you. But, fortunately, now with the BWPC, we are providing role models that you can look to and be like, this is somewhere I belong.”

 On today’s episode, Voice in Sport Founder and CEO, Stef Strack speaks with professional soccer player, Lydia Williams. Lydia is a goalkeeper for both Arsenal, in the FA Women's Super League, and the Australia Women's National Soccer Team.
