In this episode of the Voice of Bengaluru, host Sowjanya tells us the story of two of the most prominent characters in the Ramayana - Sampati & Jatayu.
Sampati and Jatayu are two legendary characters from Hindu mythology, known for their association with the epic Ramayana. Sampati, an eagle-like creature, is believed to be the older brother of Jatayu. According to the tale, Sampati possessed tremendous wingspan and sight, but during an attempt to reach the sun, his wings were singed, rendering him flightless. In the Ramayana, Jatayu is a noble and virtuous bird, who valiantly fought to save Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, from the demon king Ravana. Despite his fierce battle, Jatayu succumbed to his injuries, becoming a symbol of loyalty and sacrifice. Both Sampati and Jatayu are revered for their bravery and their pivotal roles in the Ramayana narrative.

The Indus Valley Civilization left behind a remarkable legacy, with its intricate pottery, seals, script, and a fascinating yet enigmatic culture that continues to captivate historians and archaeologists.

India's first rocket launch marked a momentous milestone in the country's space exploration journey. On November 21, 1963, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched a sounding rocket from the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS) in Kerala. The rocket, named Nike-Apache, soared into the sky, carrying scientific instruments to study the ionosphere. Led by Dr Vikram Sarabhai, this historic launch laid the foundation for India's space program and demonstrated its commitment to scientific advancements. The event paved the way for subsequent missions, leading to the development of satellites, and interplanetary probes, and culminating in India's achievement of becoming a space-faring nation.

It is known for its vibrant flavours, creamy texture, and aromatic blend of spices. Akshaya Tritiya also known as 'Akha Teej', is an auspicious Hindu festival celebrated in India and Nepal. In Sanskrit, the term "Akshaya" means everlasting or eternal, and "Tritiya" refers to the third day of the bright fortnight in the Hindu month of Vaishakha. It is considered to be one of the most significant days in the Hindu calendar and is believed to bring good luck and prosperity to those who observe it. The festival has both religious and cultural significance. It is believed that on this day, the sun and the moon are at their brightest, and the alignment of stars is particularly favourable for spiritual and material growth. Many people make important investments or purchases on this day, as it is believed that any venture initiated on Akshaya Tritiya will bring success and abundance. The festival is also associated with several mythological stories, including the birth of Lord Parasurama, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, and the day when the Pandavas received the Akshaya Patra, an inexhaustible vessel, from Lord Krishna during their exile in the forest.
On Akshaya Tritiya, people often observe fasting, offer prayers and perform charitable acts. Many also visit temples or take a dip in holy rivers to seek blessings and good fortune. Akshaya Tritiya is a joyous occasion that celebrates new beginnings and the potential for growth and prosperity.

In this last episode of a two-part segment of the Voice of Bengaluru, host Sowjanya continues the tale of the two brothers, Vaali and Sugreeva.
Betrayed by Vaali, Sugreeva fled from Kishkindha and eventually met Rama, the hero of the Ramayana. Sugreeva and Rama formed an alliance, and Rama promised to help Sugreeva defeat Vaali and regain his rightful place as the king of Kishkindha. Rama and Sugreeva devised a plan to defeat Vaali. Rama would hide behind a tree and shoot an arrow at Vaali while Sugreeva would distract him. The plan worked, and Vaali was killed by Rama's arrow. Many people view Vaali Sugreeva as a story of brotherhood and loyalty, as well as the importance of not letting power and strength corrupt one's judgment. The story also shows the consequences of betrayal and how it can lead to the downfall of even the most powerful individuals. Vaali Sugreeva continues to be a popular tale in Indian mythology, and it has been retold in various forms over the years, including in literature, films, and television shows. The story is often used as a metaphor for political power struggles and the importance of unity and loyalty in maintaining a stable society.
