Through my in-person interview with North Korean musician Eunju Yoo, we discuss the Arts and unique culture of North Korea. We touch on access to instruments and education, the kind of music taught, the importance of preserving traditional folk arts and music, how music has been used to maintain control of the people, and the need for propaganda to be archived for historical purposes but removed from Korean society. 

I this episode I sit down with NKFI Founder and President, Kenneth Bae, to discuss his heart for the North Korean people, his time in a North Korean prison, and how his experiences are manifesting today to serve and free the North Korean people, and fight for the unification of the peninsula. 

In this episode of Voices from the Hidden Kingdom, I find myself in Seoul, South Korea, visiting the NKFI office there. My friend "Alex" stopped by, and we sat down to have a conversation about his physical, mental, and emotional journey from North Korea to traveling the world. 

While women world-wide carry a heavy gender burden, mental load, and generalized invisibility, the women of North Korea are fighting a battle that most of the world will never know about, both in their country and in neighboring countries they escape to. Join me for a difficult, yet factual conversation around the first hand experience of a North Korean woman I know, hear about her journey, and get a deeper understanding of what we do at NKFI. 

Though we typically only think about the modern day oppression of the North Korean people, they have lived under occupation, oppression, neglect, and more for more than 116 years.
