Voices from the Sandbar

Listen Later

📣 FROM THE STEAMBOAT DISPATCH — “Voices from the Sandbar: A North Country Reckonin’ with What Sleeps Beneath Shatagee Woods” 🎙️🌫️🪵

A notice tacked crooked by the bar: the sandbar’s talkin’ again. Names turn up where names oughtn’t—Ouleout scratched in charcoal, the Narrows gone glass-dark at noon, a canoe idlin’ with no hands on the thwarts. The ledger says one thing. The lake keeps its own books.

Old marks resurface—Owlyout Tavern’s back door, a compass stuck between north and nowhere, a trout knife dulled like it’s been chewin’ bone. Someone swears the water lifted sideways. Someone else says the chill came early and stayed. Which account do you trust when both sound sober?

From a box of brittle tape and a margin note comes a line worth mindin’: “We knocked proper once.” Who’s the “we,” and who stopped answerin’?

Mind the ears, friends. 🕯️🪓
This hour carries grit and unease. Keep the lamp trimmed, the door latched, and the volume honest.

In this episode:
• Ouleout, named plain
• The Narrows, still water
• A canoe that waits
• Toe marks, measured twice

Spin the dial slow. Warm the valves. Pull up a chair where the floorboards know your boots.
