This episode introduces us to Londo's secret love affair with a Centauri dancer named Adira, who is under the control of a ruthless crime lord named Trakis. We also see how Sinclair risks his life to help Londo and Adira escape from Trakis' clutches.
One of the themes that we explore in this episode is how xenophobia, or the fear and hatred of other races, can have devastating consequences not only for the victims, but also for the perpetrators. We see how Londo's society, which is obsessed with status and tradition, has alienated him from his own people and made him vulnerable to exploitation. We also see how Trakis, who despises aliens and views them as inferior, has become a cruel and paranoid tyrant who trusts no one and lives in fear of losing his power.
We also discuss how Sinclair's character is developed in this episode. We see how he has a strong sense of justice and compassion, but also a tendency to put himself in harm's way without backup or support. We wonder if this is a sign of courage, recklessness, or a trauma response and how it will affect his future as the commander of Babylon 5.
Editor notes: Nita falls a sleep, lol.
We are also experimenting with a new format to the show to allow for longer form discussion. Let us know what you think.
