Welcome to Voices of Impact. Join Shane, Isabella, and Jim as they sit down with Jack Kellum, a Glendale High School senior, award-winning orator, and filmmaker, and Kathryn Buser, a Glendale High School graduate, actor, singer, and musician who charted her own path despite strong ideological pressures from family, to discuss the role youth activists play in advancing secularism. The team explores three current hurdles: finding your voice as a young activist, the boundaries between church, state, and public schools, and building bridges across beliefs. Key themes include where atheists find meaning and purpose, low youth voter turnout and the responsibility to form your own views, holding your own as a young voice in rooms full of adults, the wave of state laws requiring the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms, and how moral judgment can be grounded in reason rather than religion.
