Welcome to the third episode of the Voices of Rondo youth council podcast: Displacement of America.
The Reconnect Rondo Youth Council delves into the various ways African Americans have historically faced displacement. They examine the correlation between violent events like the Wilmington Massacre of 1898 and the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, and the subsequent effects of infrastructure projects such as the interstate system and urban renewal initiatives. Interviews from community leaders Pierre Fulford and Kevin Washington highlight the economic, cultural, and human cost of transportation policy, as well as what it means to revitalize St. Paul’s Rondo neighborhood and Detroit’s Black Bottom neighborhood.

Welcome to the second episode of The Voices of Rondo youth council podcast: The Blues Highway.

The Rondo Youth Council picks up where they left off in the previous episode, digging deeper into their findings at the Clarksdale's Hopson Plantation, the creation of northern Black communities through The Great Migration, and connections between places like Clarksdale and Rondo, whether that be through highways, music, or Civil Rights.

Clarksdale isn't the only city with similarities to Rondo, as the destruction of Black communities has occurred and continues to happen  all across the country. In the following episodes, the youth council will unearth various other Black communities that were split by highway systems.

Get to know The Voices of Rondo youth council podcast with the first ever episode: Introducing Rondo.

The podcast is hosted by the ReConnect Rondo Youth Council, who dive into the systemic racism behind the U.S. Transportation System, highlighting its generational effects on the Rondo community in St.Paul, Minnesota. This episode features numerous clips created by students at High School for Recording Arts, including  a trailer for the documentary titled Rondo: Beyond the Pavement. This documentary showcases the stories of Rondo community members, providing a look into the devastation that the I-94 interstate caused, as well as the beauty that existed before it.

The youth council moves into talking about The Great Migration, which created northern Black communities such as Rondo. This episode features a clip from a High School for Recording Arts trip to Clarksdale, Mississippi with shocking revelations about the Hopson Plantation to be expanded on in the next episode.
